Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

This beer have been cellared for a year. Ruby colour, thick creamy dark beige head, lots an lots of lacing. Aroma is full of plums, raisins, brown sugar and reminds me of a port wine. Flavour is also full of dark fruit and brown sugar combined with a very distinct bitterness. But compared with an uncellared example the dark fruit is more prominent and the bitterness is less. Alcohol is also very noticable but not overwhelming. Mouthfeel is very smooth. I think this has benefitted from the cellaring giving the flavours more depth.

This barley wine is what I was hoping for when I came over an ale called Tripel DIPA. The colour is brown-red and it pours a small but dense head. Aroma is the incredible. Fruity and extremely hoppy. Flavor starts fuity and spicy with a very big body and ends up in fruits, some toffee and a massive bitterness. A lot of hops of the best kind. Doubtless the best beer I ever had! I´m just sad it´s not always on the market!

2009. Don’t normally dig the barley wines but this has enough hop to it for me to enjoy and buy again.

12 0z bottle into snifter. What a beer. Dark red-mahogany with almost no head. Very robust aromas of grapefruit hoppiness, caramel, and fresh flowers. Very thick, almost syrup mouthfeel. Carries heavy flavors of bittersweet chocolate, brandy, hardwood smoke, and hops. Finishes pretty dry with a good bit of bitterness and alcohol. A hop lovers barley wine.

Golden orange pour. Aroma is of fruit, alcohol, and hops. Alcoholic flavor with hints of fruit, wood, and spice. Initially creamy and somewhat sweet, then shifts to a bitter hop aftertaste that dominates over the sweetness. Maybe a little hoppy, but otherwise well balanced.

2009 edition. Nice reddish copper appearance with off white head that settles slowly. Hoppy aroma with nice caramel sweetness and a bit of dried fruits and ripe red rind cheese. Complex flavour with long lasting hop bitterness that dominates over the sweetness. Appropriate low carbonation. In my opinion more suitable with food than as a stand alone.
