BrewmeisterEd (59), USA Mar 17, 2008 poured ruby red...small head, but creamy with a lingering lace. Smells of grapefruit. Heavy mouth-feel but short of syrupy. Sweet tasting followed by hop after-taste. A slight burn going down, but deceptively mild compared to stated abv%. Yum... robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Mar 17, 2008 Updated: Jul 24, 2009old rating

2009 vintage
pours a dark copper with a small beige head that becomes very thin, a little lacing.
smell of barley, burnt caramel, dark fruit, spices, citrus, some roasted nuts, and a touch of floral in the back
taste is creamy, thick, warming, alcohol comes through but not overpowering, some tart and sour fruits, caramel, and some roasted nuts, a very nice bitter ending. Blom (390), Odense, Denmark Mar 17, 2008 Vintage 2007. Clear mahogani with at low head that has a long lasting lacing. The aroma is on the one hand earthy and basementlike with some butter and on the other flowery and very hoppy. It is full bodied and oily with a looong bitter finish. The flavour is initially sweet with caramel malt and alcohol in the centre; then the bitter hops takes over and almost numbs your tongue. A 3 year old vintage 2005 proved to be more balanced with a refined hoppiness as a finish to a perfect caramel base. jodyperkins (70), Mississippi, USA Mar 16, 2008 This is the first barleywine I’ve had, so the rating may be a bit high since I have nothing to compare it to - but I can say I am a bigtime fan of this style now.
2008 25th anniversary bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a thick light brown head (a very long lasting head). Smells like caramel with hints of citrus. It’s a very creamy beer. Very malty but not bitter - hugh burst of hops finishes it off.
Great stuff. dutch23mp (160), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA Mar 16, 2008 I know this would be less hoppy with age but even now it does not hurt this fine beer. Enjoyed it very much appearance gets high marks for color and nice head. Finishes very well. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Mar 16, 2008 12oz bottle, 25th anniversary edition. Large orange with huge frothy head, Citrus and malt in aroma. Heavy citrus taste with sweet grapefruit bitterness. Balanced, very interesting, long bitter finish. I really liked this beer, it received my highest rating to date. Mega-thanks to Double D for this one. grikmok (90), Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA Mar 15, 2008 Poured to a chalice. Very nice dark golden amber with aromas of hops and roasted malts. Initial flavor of malts, followed by bitter hops. Very interesting style. The first one I’ve tasted. Reminds me a little of Hop Rod Rye. Not a bad beer. beerguzzler (31), Louisiana, USA Mar 14, 2008 Oh Sierra N.
