Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Poured from bottle a clear reddish-brown with a good sized light-tan head. Bottles says 2008 25th expedition. Aroma is floral hoppy, but not overly so, with a touch of caramel. The taste comes in as toffee sweet quickly turning to bittersweet gratefruitty. Big malty mouth feel with a roof top warming effect. The alcohol is not very noticible and my glass seems to have emptied. Yum.

Pours slightly dark amber with a fair amount of head. First thing I noticed was the fair amount of hop aroma. Malty backbone which is offset by the hop bitterness and flavor. Very easy to drink. An excellent barley wine.

A dark amber pour with modest head. Very hoppy aroma, slightly sweet. Excellent lacing. Nice medium consistency. Good active carbonation. A little spicy. Very bitter in a good way of course. No alcohol taste. One of the best biers I’ve had.

A great barleywine. I remember it being somewhat akin to an IPA, but since I’ve lost my notes, I can’t really be sure...

On pour from a bottle you can smell the alcohol. It pours to nice head with touches of brown. A nice amber or reddish color.

Poured amber with a fluffy off white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, and candy. Good balance between hops and malt. Big hops bite up front followed by mellow sweet caramel malt.
