great aroma of thick malt, and great sticky american hops, with a caramel underlining. Flavour is hoppy, but is very well balanced with the maltiness........it’s quite bitter, it really grabs the back of our throat. The alcohol is there, this beer is quite hot, it would definitely benefit from some aging. Overall a very nice barley wine, but a tad too bitter. Doughum (3), Newark, Delaware, USA does not count Mar 6, 2008 If you like Barley Wine, this is quite enjoyable and resonably priced ($9 / 6 pack). Nice full, hoppy flavor, smooth drinking, and the 9.6% ABV is surprising. Rich carmel and roasted malt taste. If you like hoppy ales, this is a good one to try! SoBloHero (56), Buffalo, New York, USA Mar 5, 2008 A nice barley wine, even better than the 2007. Has an intense deep color and creates a decent balance between hops and its own maltiness Beerman6686 (1259), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 4, 2008 Pours a copper brown color. Aroma of hops and alcohol, flavor of much the same, hops covers up the high alky flavor and finish. Takes much like a double IPA smith4498 (816), Miami, Florida, USA Mar 4, 2008 Pours reddish brown with a long lasting head. Wow, lots of hops aroma. Wasn’t expecting that from a barley wine. Also matls and fruit aromas. The flavor was also lots of hops and malt, brown sugar, caramel. Kind of a malty IIPA. Starts off hoppy and sweet and finishes malty and dry. Full body with creamy mouthfeel and mild carbonartion. Different from what you would expect from a barley wine but a very good brew. HonkeyBra (1258), Lemont, Illinois, USA Mar 4, 2008 I bought this having never been blown away by a barley wine and decided this would determine whether to continue trying this style or give up on it completely. Wow, was I impressed. From 12 oz 2008 bottle. Pours a brown with off-white head. Aroma is amazing. Fruit, citrus, malt, hops. Taste is fruit, citrus, sweet malt and a very bitter finish. Wonderful. I saved a few bottles to cellar. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 3, 2008 Absolutly love this, it may not be the kind of beer that has the ultra high rating of some other barleywines, but it has all the flavor and it lots more drinkable. Doesnt go over the top in any way. Follows the same suit as the Pale, a solid beer that defines the style that i could never turn down. Chedda (9), USA does not count Mar 2, 2008 This is truly a great barley wine. It’s got that strong malty taste that I look for in a barley wine but it’s also got that great hoppy balance that I really love. Definitely a favorite.
