MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Aug 4, 2009 Sampled at the 8th Annual Music City Brewer’s Festival. Amber brown in color. Nose is of pine, resin, hops, malty malt, and syrup. Racy beer. Flavors are rich, bitter, slightly woody, and metallic. I didn’t think the beer had any alcohol balance. This might be the worst tasting Bigfoot that I’ve ever had. Will try again... This beer has been too good in the past to leave it with this low score. Frovigalning (383), , Sweden Aug 4, 2009 It poured a clear dark amber liquid with a medium sized foam that left a nice lacing.
It had a very strong smell that I could sense even as I was pouring it. Spicey, with sweet caramell, yeast, malt, hops, citrus and some alcoholic warmth. A very thick aroma.
The first thing I noticed was a very high bitterness and a thick body. It also had some malt. sweet caramell and hops. The alcohol was well hidden and is only revieled by the warmth that spreads in my mouth afterwards. Also leaves a very dry tingly sensation in my mouth. I really enjoyed the high bitterness, a very nice beer. andersand (271), Malmö, Sweden Aug 2, 2009 Deep dark amber colour with a small sticky off-white head. Perfumey, hoppy and malty aroma. Flavour starts sweet but burning with nice rich malt notes and ends extremely bitter, burning and powerfull with a perfumey hop bite. Body is medium with rather sharp carbonation, alcohol is very well hidden. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Aug 2, 2009 A bottle 0.35L from Alko shop. Hoppy nose. Pale beige head. Slightly hazy amber coloured. Strong hoppy taste. Sweet but bitter. Well hidden alcohol! Duhast500 (176), , Massachusetts, USA Aug 2, 2009 Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass.
The color is a deep amber with a nice foamy white head. Has some nice lacing.
The smell of citrus hops, some caramel notes, and a hint of malt.
The taste is really nice. A good barely taste with some citrus hops feel, also has a bit of a suagry sweet taste with a bit of a bitterness in the background.
The best barleywine I have had. It will be touch to surpass this. Sierra Nevada has made a really great beer and continues to impress me.
Ron (1000), Rochester, New York, USA Jul 31, 2009 Strong hops, fruity and floral, light malty aromas. Opaque reddish-brown, with white tan head. Heavy bitter flavor. Smooth, medium bodied, thin texture, and softly carbonated. Plenty of alcohol present and some bitterness in the ending. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Jul 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours a lovely dark reddish brown with a head that leaves nice layers on the glass. Smell is dark fruit molasses, brown sugar and caramel.Taste is similar, with a nice hint of alcohol. Goes down smoooooth. williamherbert (420), Syracuse, New York, USA Jul 29, 2009 Call me crazy but this 2009 version seems a tad different from the 2008 version. Color: brick red and orange; nice fluffy head; rich and murky, tones of carbonation. A thin sheet of lace. Serious woody/resinous hop aroma. Underneath, a roasted, crusty malt. BItter and grainy in the nose, but with a harsh hop balance. Severe roasted grainy malt flavor; oily, pungent, woody hop. Hint of grapefruit and spicy cinnamon. Really strong; hefty ultra-dark malts overshadow those hops; major burnt cookie aftertaste. Gritty, thick feel; whiskey burn on the way down. A strong, smooth, intense, rich, murky sipper.
