Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. Aroma of celery. I’m suprised this isn’t an IPa, the hops are so strong, which translates into a taste of celery, as well - the bitter aspect. That having been said, it’s a good flavour, the bitterness is just not my favourite, so I won’t rate this super high.

0,355 l bottle from Vinmonopolet. Aroma is caramel, dries fruit, pine and citrus. Taste is sweet and malty and even some hops. Slightly bitter in the end.

A clear dark amber body with a fluffy, well lasting light brown head. The nose has deep caramel, cookie, sherry and liquorice. Taste is sweet with a hefty bitter finish that really lingers on the palate. Carbonation is quite lively and makes the rich palate seem a little lighter. Quite nice and easy to drink but the bitterness is a bit too heavy for an english style barleywine.

Pours copperbrown with a beige, half rocky half frothy head. The nose has caramel, toasted malts, banana, cardboard, cold press coffee, fudge, slight booze and hops, but the hops fade after 20 minutes time. Get more vinous over time. Gentler, more approachable. The taste has rich malt, blackbread, yeasty notes., banana again and bitter taste from the hops. These stay in the aftertaste which is mostly bitter. Not much sweetness (yet) this is a 2015 bottle. I suspect the taste and aftertaste will become sweeter, gentler and rounder over time once the booze and hops fade. Mouthfeel is lively at first but gets smoother eventually. Solid old school brew that I’ve always liked.

2012 Vintage Aging well. Firm, almost dry for the style, and old school bitterness to finish. Some malt sweetness lurks and I wonder if this is more pronounced when young? Good for a couple more years.

Bottle, 355ml. A clear mahogany beer wtih a medium size white head that fades away quickly. Fruity aroma with malt, barley and alcohol. Taste is bitter and very earthy. Some carbonation and astringency. Strong alcohol finish.

Bottle, 355ml. Opaque maple/orange with a frothy tan head. Fruity aromas of roasted caramel, dried fruits, alcohol. Medium to robust bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth, oily and slightly dry. Earthy malt character with a sweet and bitter alcohol finish. Very nice.

355ml bottle enjoyed @ home, 2011 vintage. Pours hazy amber with a big and foamy off-white head. Aroma is floral, caramel, toffee, herbal and a hint of dark fruits. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Medium bodied, slick texture, soft carbonation. Finish is long and floral.

Hoppy, malt, floral, herbal aroma. Red clear liquid. Medium sweetness in beginning followed by light-medium bitterness. Full body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Good american style barley wine.
