COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Bottle. About 5 months old, still pretty fresh and hoppy. Dark red/brown color, light beige color on the medium head, compact, small bubbles. Really strong hoppy aroma. Citrus, resin, pine, also some caramel and bread. Very sweet taste. A lot of toffee and caramel but also a lot of citrusy bitterness in the aftertaste. Average carbonation, maybe a little bit soft which I like. Nice full body and sticky texture. Looking forward to open some older bottles in the future.

Dark redish colour with an off-white head. Aroma of hops, grass and citrus with a sweet note of burnt sugar. Strong taste with lots of dry bitterness. Some burnt sugar, caramel and a slight hint of molasses. You feel the alcohol level. A difficult taste. A heavy beer with a slighyly oily texture.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines. Absolutely classic Barley Wine. Warming, sweet, hoppy. Genuinely savoured.

Flaska från Systembolaget. Grumlig mörk bärnstensfärgad vätska med lågt ljust skum. Doftar karamell. Väldigt fyllig maltig smak med ganska stor pepprighet.

Aroma is caramelly without overdoing it, there is some roastiness and nuttiness to it as well. Maybe roasted chestnuts. Appearence is dark orange hazy white head. Pretty bitter with caramelly maltiness a bit to bitter for the maltiness. Full body average carbonation silky texture. Not as complex as I remember and also unbalanced in the taste. Maybe still to young, 2014 version.

Pours dark amber with a small burnt orange head and good lacing. An initially syrupy sweet aroma gives way to more savoury dank pine and musky citrus, not too bold but more than fitting for the style. Thick, but not overdone body with a very light carbonation. A very typical malt profile for the style, caramel, pancake syrup and demerara sugar, with the lovely addition of a fruity, dark forest honey character. Hops come through in the form of wild flowers, pine, candied fruit peel and hints of citrus. Round with a lingering palate encompassing bitterness.

From a bottle. Pours copper with a thin lasting head, earthy aroma, not overly bitter. I liked it but wouldn’t drink it all night.

Its body has a deep reddish brown color with a slight haze. The head is thin, about one finger, and very clingy. Over time as I slowly sipped this one it gradually settled down to wispy thin covering that makes nice lace rings. There are lots of wonderful citrus and resiny pine like hop notes in the aroma over rich sweet caramel and roasted malty notes. The alcohol is noticeable and boozy in a good way. Its big full body brings a base of warm boozy sweet malt with strong hops mixed in. There are notes of rich caramel, roasted grain and red lickerish candy covered with powerful citrus and resiny spicy hops. Hop bitterness bites onto the tongue and hangs on long into the finish. The texture has a firm slick feel with nice soft carbonation.
