Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Pours a dark amber color with a white head. Aromas of dark fruits, and floral hops. Taste is initially very malty sweet with a huge hoppy bitterness at the end and an alcohol burn. Full bodied.

Uninspiring one with some not so easy to drink moments. Bit metallic with some acid in the back. Below average.

This is one of those beers that it's complexity appears more in each sip. It has stronger bitterness tones than sweeter wine flavors. For a Sierra Nevada beer, this is much fuller than I expected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Rudat in Dortmund, labelled as 2014 Bigfoot Ale. Pours out in a deep dark brown colour with low smooth head and smooth body. Aroma of raisins and prunes. Taste of light malt, barley, raisins, prunes, plums and chocolate. Hints of berries, which makes the beer little bit too acid and sour for a nice barley wine. Acid finish. Thin and lacks some character. Expected more.

Small bottle at Hops Northwest in New Westminster. A ruby amber beer, with moderate beige head. A fruity and malted nose. Wow! Big hop and grain notes here. A tartly bitter, winey and grainy ale indeed! The flavour balance here is exquisite. 4.

My first barleywine - not sure what they’re typically like. This tasted like other Sierra Nevada hop-dominated beers, only a little more so. Hoppy, bitter, big alcohol warmth. Nice. Very intense - I split half a bottle with another drinker and probably couldn’t have managed a bottle myself.

355ml 2014 years vintage brown bottle, poured into a snifter glass. Appearance is cloudy dark amber with a medium sized foamy khaki colored head with good retention, that when reduced left a little lacing on the glass. Aroma of grapefruit, pine and resin. Flavours of grapefruit, resin, caramel, spices and dark bread. Taste is light-medium sweet and heavy bitter. Palate is full bodied, slightly sticky texture and soft carbonation. A strong bitter Barley Wine that is relatively light on sweetness for the style, overall a great Barley Wine.

12 ounce bottle. 2014 vintage. Beautiful garnet color topped by a rocky beige head. Aroma is spicy, sweet toasted malt and resiny hops. Upfront, the bittersweet burnt caramel malt dominates. A virtual assault on the palate. Mid taste brings intense resiny hops that touch on smoky, woody notes. Whiskey-like finish. More bitter hops a well. Big and complex, as I always remember it. I have been drinking this classic for 30 years; still amazing!

Letisztult, vékonyan szirupos ízét legalábbis remekül ellensúlyozza a komló marcona bukéja, mely egyszersmind kissé összetettebb mondanivalóval is felruházza ezt a telt karakterű, száraz utóízű italt.

Dark redish colour with an off-white head. Aroma of hops, grass and citrus with a sweet note of burnt sugar. Strong taste with lots of dry bitterness. Some burnt sugar, caramel and a slight hint of molasses. You feel the alcohol level. A difficult taste. A heavy beer with a slighyly oily texture.
