Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

2013 vintage. Pours a deep copper amber color with a two finger sticky foamy head. On the nose it subtle but complex... notes of grass, honey, fig and caramel. The palate is hot with rich bitter hops jumping on the front of the flavor profile. Grassy floral touches that burn out into a sappy piney resinous mid to late palate... its then that the sweet toffee and toasted malty notes creep in from the background balancing out the biting hops and creating a pretty harmonious finish.

Pours hazy, light mahogany, big thick creamy off white head, lots of thick lacing. Aroma caramel, toffee, pineapple, eaethy, bready. Taste bitter upfront, almost an artificial sweetener flavor, caramel, toffee, very earthy slight pineapple. Mouthfeel full body, medium carbonation, slight alcohol bite, semi-dry finish. Overall interesting, good big beer now, very complex, I think the slight artificial sweetener flavor and bitterness would subside with age, I need to age one of these.

Bottle. Pours unclear, Dark amber with an off White head. Aroma is packed with sweet malts and sugar, hops and hoppy fruityness. Taste is very bitter-hoppy, but still with a good deal of sweet caramel malts. But over all, this is more IIPA than barley Wine in my opinion. Fairly high carb, medium body ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very strong and malty barley wine. It tastes like a dark breadcrust combined with a malty sweetness and oak.

Bottle from bottle shop in truro uk. Pours clear dark orangey red with orangey head. Aroma malt and hops and orange. Taste is sweet, malty, hoppy and slight bitterness. Great hoppy barleywine. My favourite yet. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Smells of sweet slightly tart dried fruit, raisin and an almost rubbery mustiness. Tastes of raisiny malt, alcohol, spice, very hoppy.

2014 Vintage 355mL bottle Pours a clear deep amber body with a small firm ring of dense foam. Aroma explodes from the (Sierra Nevada IPA) glass! Grass, ripe peach, pine needle, grapefruit, bay leaf, resiny, sappy, really fresh hops, but not to be outdone, there’s an excellent measure of sticky toffee, toasted nut & biscuity malt in support Big in the mouth without being cloying or overly boozy, has a resiny, sticky texture, long on the finish, decent carbonation. A delight on the palate; leafy, grassy, sappy, pine & citrus, spicy, woody, with plenty of sweet caramels & biscuity malts there. Big bitterness provides balance and length, warming alcohol without being all too obvious. Top notch barley wine, great balance, plenty of flavour.

Uninspiring one with some not so easy to drink moments. Bit metallic with some acid in the back. Below average.

This is one of those beers that it's complexity appears more in each sip. It has stronger bitterness tones than sweeter wine flavors. For a Sierra Nevada beer, this is much fuller than I expected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Rudat in Dortmund, labelled as 2014 Bigfoot Ale. Pours out in a deep dark brown colour with low smooth head and smooth body. Aroma of raisins and prunes. Taste of light malt, barley, raisins, prunes, plums and chocolate. Hints of berries, which makes the beer little bit too acid and sour for a nice barley wine. Acid finish. Thin and lacks some character. Expected more.
