Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Pours dark red with a thin white head. Aroma is strong west coast hops, citrus and cat piss pine (not bad in my book). Taste is very much on the bitter side for an american barleywine, strong pine and citrus hops with some caramel sweetness from the malt. It has a medium body with above average carbonation, I think it could have used lighter carbonation. Overall is a good american barleywine, but borders on being more of a strong IPA.

2012 vintage. Pours a murky dark orange amber. Nice lacing and a dense off white head that dissipates to a thin line. Nose is candied pineapple, caramel, booze, figs, dates, with some faint citrusy hop resin. Flavor is burnt sugar, caramel, figs, dried papaya, flashes of heat, faint beginnings of oxidation/sherry in the background, and a surprisingly still bitter lingering finish.

Amber color with a two finger tan head. Aroma is citrus, roasted malt, pine and hops. Taste is hoppy, bitter with a nice roasted and sweet touch. A favorite one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Glug, Newcastle. Pours amber with a cream head. Good pungent aroma, very fruity with lots of pine hops too. Very full flavoured with notes of pine, caramel, fruit cake and nice warming alcohol. Very good indeed.

2014 vintage bottled on 11/29/13. A bit hazy. Dark amber appearance with a small head that dissipates quite quickly. Aroma is of citrusy hops and herbs, as well as some malt sweetness. Is that vanilla I pick up too? Taste up front is reminiscent of bitter grapefruit with caramel, bread and malt. Medium bodied. Bitterness lingers quite a while and the finish is dry. Very complex. One of my favorite Sierra Nevada beers. Aging a few to see how they’ll change.

12oz stubby poured into tulip during #bottlecherwednesday at Beachwood Seal Beach. Aged a year or so. Reddish amber body with tan head that is crazy sticky and leaves a ton of lacing. Aroma is of pine, grapefruit, caramel, malt, and alcohol. Taste is strong earthy hops to begin then shifting to citrus followed by caramel and roasty malt sweetness. Alcohol esters give a fruity note as it warms the body. Full body, oily texture, low carbonation, warming and drying boozy finish.

Very high level. Full of excellent flavours and aromas, like a great french wine. I’m french and I know a lot of european beers, specialy Belgian beers. I consider Sierra Nevada as a very good brewery and this bigfoot as one of the best beers I’ve ever drunk.

33cl flaske. Flot rødbrun farve, klar. Stærk sødme duft af malt. Smag, igen sødme og bitterhed i fin balance. Typisk barley wine.

Aroma is malt, dark fruit, standard barley wine. Appearance is light orange, with a creamy orange head. Taste is bitter, some fig, somewhat fruity, no booze. Mouthfeel is nice, soft carbonation, sticky but dry. Overall, a solid brew, much like any Sierra Nevada.

Tap. Pours dark copper color. Small off white head. Nose of berries and overripe fruits. Malty sweetness and caramel. Strong flavor.
