COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Sierra Nevada never let’s you down, and this is easily one of their crown jewels! Pours a reddish brown with a foamy off white head. It’s got chocolate, caramel, fruit and hops in the nose. And a wonderful malty hoppy ipa flavor. Caramel and sweet fruit to start, changing to a bold hoppy ipa taste in the middle, and finishes with citrusy fruits and a lot of alcohol flavor. This is a bold beer. Think torpedo on crack. Definitely one of my favorite barley wines, right up there with Founders Bolt Cutter.

From bottle. Pours in lovely dark amber with a firm and tasty golden head. Nose is caramel, honey sweetness and lots of malty wine notes. Taste deep malty with characteristic, light bitter notes of the hops. Palate longlasting and with distinctive bitterness and some oiliness.

neongolden (1127) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 10, 2016
(355ml 2016 bottle from Systembolaget) Pours clear amber/ruby with a loose pile of cream foam that lingers well with lace. Aroma has a typical malty barley wine core, rather sweet with notes of torrified sugar, fruitcake, some paler dried fruits, lightly toasty grain, citrus peel, earthy piney hops with an almost woody character. Flavour is quite sweet with lots of malt up front, raw and lightly burnt sugars, bready, a bit fruity, citrus oils, but with hop character ramping up quickly. That brings pine, dry grass, earth, citrus, and spicy, herbal and peppery notes along with an increasingly drying, quite high level of bitterness. Finishes bone dry and bitter with a long astringent cling in the mouth. Alcohol hidden. Medium bodied with fairly low carbonation. A solid hop-driven barley wine, maybe it’s not as rich in malts as it could be but not totally unbalanced either.

dslam (103) - surrey, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 8, 2016
Poured from a 12fl Oz bottle. Light amount of ahead. Very murky amber color and no lacing. Very good aroma of toffee and citrus. Medium amount of carbonation with really good flavor. There is some bitter taste left after swallowing, that leaves me wanting for more

Poured from 12 fl oz bottle [2012]. Orangey brown with beige head, mild sediment. Caramel and sweet malt, piney hops, dry bitter finish. Medium body.

Appearance: opaque medium to deep amber with a short, short-lived ivory head, no lacing. (3/5) Aroma: boozy dark fruit, toffee, citrus zest, pine resin. (8/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, moderate-high bitter. (8/10) Medium-full slightly oily body, moderate carbonation, sticky lingering bitter and warming finish. (4/5) An extremely interesting ale. Initially, the malt and alcohol aromas overwhelm, and seem to be all there is to it, but very rapidly the huge American-style hops kick in, turning your mouth into the scene of a total battle royale. No sooner does the sweet malt invade, than it’s jumped on by the massive hops. Although it’s hugely sweet (and actually finishes a little sticky), it never gets cloying, simply because the resiny and citrus zest bitter never lets it. You know how people make pomanders by sticking cloves in an orange? Think that, except pine needles instead of cloves, then crusting the whole thing in brown sugar. (16/20)

(33 cl bottle in wine glass.) Pours to beautifully that I lost my breath. Amazing clear amber color with a perfect carbonation leaving a half-finger head that lies and dissipates perfectly. The nose is rather thin but clear as a whistle. Was surprised by the amounts of hops coming through on the palate but I think it has a bit to do with the beverage not being as sweet as these BW’s can be. A real hop-fiesta. Excellent brew.

355ml bottle from The Perfect Pour. Pours a bright hazy red with a foamy tan head. Fruity and malty aroma, the taste is strongly bitter with a developing sweetness, high abv noticeable, but not overpowering.

laakus (105) - Nossebro, - MAY 28, 2016
Bottled 12/23/15 Mahogany brown in colour with a light brown foam. Sweet fruity tones hits the nose. Mouth; a battle between the malty sweetness traditionally associated with english barley wine and the hoppines of the modern american (pale) ales.. Bitter finish. Well balanced and very nice sipper of abeer when reading a book, taking a bath or whatever when wanting to add that little piece of luxury.

Fajne, degustacyjne ABW.
Wysycenie: Średnie.
Podsumowanie:
Klasyka gatunku i książkowy wyznacznik American Barleywine.
