Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

I am working on getting them all, so if you have anything before 1995 or 96, 97 or 98, BeerMail me. I like that it appears to be available in most finer stores. Last tried the 2004 version and it was just as fantastic as the previous.

Draft at Coasters Brewpub. The head of this beer was average size and white with fine-large sized bubbles that were mostly lasting. The body was softly carbonated and hazy with a light brown hue. The nose was comprised of caramel, citrus and hops. The flavor was bitter and hoppy with a hoppy mouthfeel as well. The lacing was excellent. 2008 Edition Bottle on 5/9/08:Nose was malt, floral hops, and caramel. Ditto for the flavor along with some bitterness. Mouthfeel was fairly smooth and medium bodied. Quite tasty, nicely done and worthy of a try.

Pours a gorgeous bronze with a hint of red. The head is fluffy and a tan-white mix. It quickly recedes. The first sniff reveals a strong hop base. Further wafts also reveal the alcohol and some candy-ish notes. The taste was hoppy and slightly bittersweet. The alcohol really stands out. Finishes smooth but a little dry. Definitely recommended trying. I had a 2003 bottle but I will be buying more and definitely storing some.

Bottled. Thick looking red beer with a thick then light head. The aroma is strong with a fruity finish (strawberry like), and the flavour is intensely dry with a very bitter finsh. Overall too dry but drinkable.

This brew is many things - subtle is not one of them. Delicious, fruity, malty, and hoppy aroma - all at the same time. Flavor is all that as well. Detect a bit of undertone flavor of nuts as well in the aftertaste. Nice deep rich burgundy-like appearance. Warms the belly - but the alcohol is hidden oh so well. Best of Sierra so far. Thanks to Aurelius for this one. 2002 edition.

Reddish amber. Sweet, quite gentle peachy aroma. However the rather aggressive taste is dominated by alcohol and bitterness. Reminded me of drinking a brandy and soda. In a head to head Barley Wine tasting I didn’t enjoy it as much as the Woodfordes Headcracker.

Draught. Served in a Sierra Nevada snifter. Clear ruby color with creamy off white head that laced the glass. Big perfumy hop nose with a hint of cherries. Tangy and slightly sweet up front. Alcohol, cotton candy, and taffy flavors nicely compliment the flowery hop flavor. Pleasant bitter hop finale. Very good barley wine.

Dark red, mildly brown color. Little beige head. Roasted, strongly bitter aroma with spices, vinous tones, sweetness and mild alcohol in the end, rich aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is also strong:starts with sweet caramel, ends with strong dryness and bitterness. Alcohol comes up nicely in the end with spices. Long and strong aftertaste.
