Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

In my preference, this is a perfect appearance. The aroma is absolutly perfect to fit the appearance of this beer. Then you take a drink and WHOA! BITTER! Traditional barley wines are not supposed to be this bitter, but I’ve been told that this is a trademark of the brew co. It’s like the most beautiful flower with the most deadly poison. Beautiful and sweat smelling, but will spank your butt if you cross the line. Not as smooth as Old Knuckle Head. This beer demands your attention. I used to hate drinking this beer but I always bought it when it came out. Thats the respect it demands. I really enjoy drinking this starting at ice cold, and sipping it, and by the last sip it is room temperature and still is good. A completly mystifying beer.

Bottled 12/23/15 Mahogany brown in colour with a light brown foam. Sweet fruity tones hits the nose. Mouth; a battle between the malty sweetness traditionally associated with english barley wine and the hoppines of the modern american (pale) ales.. Bitter finish. Well balanced and very nice sipper of abeer when reading a book, taking a bath or whatever when wanting to add that little piece of luxury.

Fajne, degustacyjne ABW.
Wysycenie: Średnie.
Klasyka gatunku i książkowy wyznacznik American Barleywine.

First time i review this beer. 6th year in a row i try it out. The Aroma is bitter with some sweet fudge. The taste is realy bitter at first but the after taste is the real kicker here. At first it’s the fudge that is kicking in but after the fudge a subtle bitterness is taking over. The overall taste is toasted bitternes.

Draft. Nose is strong in caramel and toffee. Moderate citrus hop aroma. Orange marmalade. Deep red pour with medium sized off white head, tight, tiny bubbles. Taste is initially a huge malt bomb that quickly shows a moderate to high bitterness to balance. Not for the faint of heart, the malt and hops are turned to 11 on this one, while the alcohol is always smooth and never hot. Barely warming. After a few sips it becomes more drinkable as opposed to sippable. Damn good American barleywine.
