4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Zaprozdower (66) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - MAR 31, 2009Vintage 2009. Great aroma, love that the hops can be found here. Nice head and color, somewhat dark copper. Very balanced for a barleywine, perfect amount of hops to counterbalance the maltyness. Definitely better than the Duck Rabbit barleywine. Aging my 2nd one for a bit as I’m sure it can be even better!
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20 Beerenberger (800) - Fischer, Texas, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Vintage 2013. Aroma of sweet malts and citrus fruit. Pours a dark ruby with an off-white ring and no lacing. The taste is moderately bitter combined with a nice balance of sweet malt. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, while note as "potent" as Stone’s Old Gaurdian, i find it to be a very enjoyable example of a Barlewine; one I would drink again.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 radarsock (487) - Massachusetts, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Hot and sedative, this barley wine with its leathery mouthfeel and caramelized and earthy-bitter flavors, extends my expectations. It was definitely boozy, but I favored its warmth. A little nutty, resembling toasted pecans and almonds, by mid-palate; smoke also prevalent by its bitey finish. I liked this. 2012 edition.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Jow (1380) - New York, USA - MAY 14, 2013
Call this the month of me filling in gaps in my beer resume. Really should have rated this years ago but anyways on tapnat Stagshead figured about time. Pours reddish copper with beige head and lovely nose of piney hops. Tastes of pine, resin, junipers, burnt caramel, cherry, red licorice, and some earth. Chewy palate and lingering finish.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ShaneJ (101) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 13, 2013
Bottle from Plonk (2013 release). Dark reddish-amber, strong resiney/piney hop aroma with some sweet caramel and butterscotch sneaking through, maybe some banana cake too. Flavour is all hop bitterness up front but sweet malt and some alcohol warmth round out a really nice (winter) beer. "It’s a barley wine, Jim, but not as we know it". Excellent.
