spikester (438), Salem, Oregon, USA Mar 21, 2008 Pours dark red with minimal head. Good lacing.
Nice pine aroma, some sweetness.
Flavor is a bitter grapefruit hops with some roasted malts. This is a barleywine for sure.
Palate was full and smooth.
Overall not my favorite brew. IBU is 90. More than I regularly enjoy. But it is a well crafted brew and for a 9.6% abv it doesn’t taste of too much alcohol. For fans of the barleywine style. This was the 2008 version. I have one more of these I’m going to age for awhile and will try again much later.
Swolf3 (90), Elkton, Maryland, USA Oct 11, 2008 Bottle Thanks to BuckeyBoy. Poured nice red brown with thick head. Aroma was very malty, hops, syrup, and dark fruits. Taste very malty maybe a litttle too malty, but nice hop flavor after, with syrup, and dark fruits. finished thick and smooth with a bit of alcohol finish. Jsawyer (22), , Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottled. Pours nicely dense brown with decent head. Strong malt aroma but also slightly sweet and hoppy. Flavor is intense; malt, dark fruit, maple syrup, bitter hop and alcohol finish that lingers for awhile. Palate is rich and thick, really nice. Definitely something to drink slowly and really good with something salty. craftycarl21 (214), South Hero, Vermont, USA Sep 26, 2008 pours a dark mahogany with a small head. aroma of cherries, hops, raisin, and some sweet malt- very nice on the nose. Flavor is excellent- surprising amount of bitterness, but still with the sweetness character of barleywine. Palate is very nice- sticks to the tongue, but not so aggressive that it’s not drinkable. Really well crafted brew, one of sierra nevada’s better offerings. CaryTheDude (283), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Sep 26, 2008 Gonna crush with Jakebra and cellar a few. Lots goin on here. Now that is an aroma. Oooh yeah. Got some fruitiness and some awesomeness and maybe some smokiness. Flavor kicks some serious ass with a badass bitterness in the finish. Now that is a barley wine. Nice. mekju_baksa (16), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 24, 2008 Bottle. Wow is this good! According to the packaging, this is the 25th "release" of Bigfoot Ale. Not sure if that means it’s 25 years old. Hoppy and sweet with big flavor and a fruity bouquet. Great with American staples like Pizza and burgers, but nothing sweet like BBQ. A great barley wine style beer (no, it’s not mead) to enjoy slowly. The beer has a deep, rich amber colour with a bitter finish.
