COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

Pours a very nice dark reddish-brown from a bottle. Aroma of toffee, almost burnt, flavor is similar, coffee notes, a little cola too. Very good beer.

9.6%ABV.  Barley wine. Poured out amber.  21ºSRM. Nose is nutty,  There are some other aromas that I typically associated with brown ales.  There may be a hint of cinnamon and Christmas spice. Mouthfeel is syrupy. Palate has some nice heft to it, alcoholic palate.  The middle of the palate is rounded, sweet, malty and almost fruity. Finish is alcoholic.

Aroma has confectioneries and chocolatish malts. Beer is hazy rosewoodish with beige-orangeish head. Barley malts and winey taste. Solid body, soft carbonation. Somewhat monotone. [35.5cl btl 9.6%abv BB31.12.16 B@CittiMarkt Flensburg]

2015 version. Taste is clove, tart, citrus, passion fruit and light earthiness. A slight yeastiness matches the floral notes. Appearance is a hazy amber with a medium pearl head that retains quite well.

Amber color. Classic Barley Wine aromas with some added hops, caramel, dark fruits. Sweet caramel malt, with a lot of hops, citrus and pine. Bitter hop finish.

From bottle. Pours in lovely dark amber with a firm and tasty golden head. Nose is caramel, honey sweetness and lots of malty wine notes. Taste deep malty with characteristic, light bitter notes of the hops. Palate longlasting and with distinctive bitterness and some oiliness.

neongolden (1196) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 10, 2016
(355ml 2016 bottle from Systembolaget) Pours clear amber/ruby with a loose pile of cream foam that lingers well with lace. Aroma has a typical malty barley wine core, rather sweet with notes of torrified sugar, fruitcake, some paler dried fruits, lightly toasty grain, citrus peel, earthy piney hops with an almost woody character. Flavour is quite sweet with lots of malt up front, raw and lightly burnt sugars, bready, a bit fruity, citrus oils, but with hop character ramping up quickly. That brings pine, dry grass, earth, citrus, and spicy, herbal and peppery notes along with an increasingly drying, quite high level of bitterness. Finishes bone dry and bitter with a long astringent cling in the mouth. Alcohol hidden. Medium bodied with fairly low carbonation. A solid hop-driven barley wine, maybe it’s not as rich in malts as it could be but not totally unbalanced either.

Poured from a 12fl Oz bottle. Light amount of ahead. Very murky amber color and no lacing. Very good aroma of toffee and citrus. Medium amount of carbonation with really good flavor. There is some bitter taste left after swallowing, that leaves me wanting for more
