COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blindfold Black IPA features a blend of hop varieties whose bright, fruity aroma complements the coffee-like flavors of dark roasted malts. Blindfold blankets us in darkness yet maintains a surprisingly light body and bold, hoppy character. This black IPA emerged from our Beer Camp program and builds on Sierra Nevadaís legendary love of hops with roasted malts for depth and complexity. Like its namesake, Blindfold is a bit disorienting--the color of a stout and the intense hop-forward flavors of a classic American IPA.

Minty and smokey aroma, but thereís frying bacon in the air here. Flavor hops first then smooth, roasted malt flavor. A hint of dark fruit. Long bitter finish; the hop bitters play nicely with the burnt malt bitters. Itís more hop and more roast than others. Black IPA and bacon infused meatballs, yum.

Black/brown pour with foamy clinging tan head and lace. Aroma is light roasted malt and resiny hops. Flavor is roasty, light touch of coffee and a good bitter finish. Medium body with good carbonation. A beer that could pass as a stout, just a good beer.

Bottle - from sampler pack. Opaque - very dark brown to black in color. Large tan head, coffee and hops in aroma. Very hoppy with roasted flavors too. Quite good.

12 oz bottle in a variety pack pours black with a tan head. Roasty nose with a bit of hops. Just kinda a dark, somewhat hoppy, watery beer. Itís clean but boring. Never been a fan of this style, but this is tolerable.

Bottle from the 4 pack A: Opaque black with a near permanent creme colored head. Lacing. N: Cocoa, pine, earth, light grapefruit, coffee, leaves, peppercorn, T: Big bittersweetness, leaning towards the hearty bitterness. M: Medium body, some chalkiness, prickly carbonation, no alcohol burn. O: Hoppy stout Black IPA. Very well balanced, and probably the best beer in the 4 pack. Will enjoy these.

Extremely dark brown. Medium tan/brown foam. Aroma is of both coffee/dark chocolate and grassy/hoppy - but a bit faint, not very strong. Taste: seems rather well balanced and low-IBU for an IPA -- not sure I believe the 70 IBUís, seeems to high. Bittersweet, coffee, dark chocolate, and moderately hoppy. Me likey very much.

Jet black, smooth and creamy not getting too much hops for an IPA. Decent.

Solid. Pleasant roastiness. Balanced with a good pine bitterness on the finish. Well done black ipa.

Love this style. Big rich coffee toffe aroma with great earthy hop aroma. Flavor is crisp toast and crisp type of noble hop character. Finishes super crisp and clean. A great bIPA

From 12 oz bottle, variety pack, poured into 16oz tulip glass

Aroma: roasted malts, faint coffee, piney hops, smells like an American Stout

Appearance: Black, clear, tan head

Taste: medium bitter

Palate: medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, bitter finish

Overall: Has aroma and body of a stout. Nice roasted malts and coffee aroma and flavors. Hops are definitely present, but the roasted malts cover some of it. If I was blindfolded and tasted this, Iíd guess itís a hoppy stout.
