COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blindfold Black IPA features a blend of hop varieties whose bright, fruity aroma complements the coffee-like flavors of dark roasted malts. Blindfold blankets us in darkness yet maintains a surprisingly light body and bold, hoppy character. This black IPA emerged from our Beer Camp program and builds on Sierra Nevada’s legendary love of hops with roasted malts for depth and complexity. Like its namesake, Blindfold is a bit disorienting--the color of a stout and the intense hop-forward flavors of a classic American IPA.

A solid black IPA, nice hop profile, black flavor is present, nice mix between the porter like beer and the hoppiness that you would expect from SN, rivals the other black IPAs I have had from SN, and any other brewer for that matter.

Pretty much a textbook BIPA. Citrusy hop aromas and flavor, roasted malts, medium bitter finish. A bit of an overwhelming acrid bite at the end, too stout like, bit of a clash between the roast and hops

Bottle. Fairly dark brown with a large beige head. Aroma has grapefruit, pine, kumquat, a little char, mocha. Nice but not all that vibrant. Dryish side of bittersweet with rather dull mocha, citrus and pine floating through towards a fairly bitter finish. OK, maybe a bit old.

12oz bottle, 4-Way IPA Variety Pack. Dark pour, huge lacing. Aroma of roasted grains, pine hops. Sweet malts flavor, tastes of roast. Finishes with a sharp pine hops bitterness. Well done. (4152)

The Dark IPA has been a very interesting ride over the last 5 years. Been thinking of making my own.

pours dark dark brown. leaves a ring and some film. smells pretty nice, lot of citrus type hops. Here is what this is: a really nice black IPA. I would like to see a bit more of the chocolate malt shine thru here, maybe tone the bitter down just a touch to bring out the malt. at the same time, I know we start to cross the line there. but cmon. black pale ale?

A black body with a rich tan head that had excellent retention with some lace. A nice roasted malt presence. Mostly grapefruit hops and a bit if smoke. Flavor had good balance between roasted malts and bitter hops. A bit too much grapefruit. A nice moderately dry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black. Smells roasty and hoppy. Bitter roasts and hops on front and settles in to chocolate ending

Publix mixed pack for IPA Day. Wow this was nice. Great aroma that has a touch of nuttiness and coffee mixed in with the hops. Wonderful flavor that mixes dark roasted malt with green hops and a miss lingering bitterness. Wonderfully made.

Bottle (12 oz). Courtesy of Minderbinder, thanks! Black with a medium fully lasting beige head and good lacing. Aroma is of piney notes, grapefruits, roasted malt, chocolate, and fruity notes. Taste is slightly sweet with pine, grapefruits, chocolate, roastead malt and light to moderate bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Slightly oily moutfheel. Moderately dry finish. Very good Black IPA. Not too stout-ish. Well balanced. Drinkable and tasty. Very well done!
