3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with a 2 finger, ashy reddish tan head. Aroma of citrus and pine, surprisingly, not much there. Flavor is roast, roasted nuts, chocolate, molasses, light char, a little booziness, floral, citrus and pine hops. Medium body, oily, syrupy entry, medium, but sharp carbonation and still slightly oily, off dry finish. Good brew overall, nothing too interesting going on, but itís well sorted.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
From a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Bottled on 12-10-14 so it was about six weeks old. Pours jet black with LOTS of frothy light brown head. Not much aroma. Mouthfeel is very light. SUPER roasty taste! I like it. Hops are subdued, old or just overshadowed by the roast, because I didnít taste much of any. Easy drinkable and seemed like it should have had less alcohol. Pretty decent. Iíd try another single if I could get it fresher... but otherwise, just OK.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle: pours dark almost black with a light tan head. Aroma of citrus hops and roasted malts. Flavors dominated by the roasted malt but citrus and resin hops provide a nice balance. Mostly an ipa feel but solid malt counter. Great example of the black ipa style.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep brown, almost black with a medium creamy lacing head. Aroma of orange zest, chocolate and caramel. Flavor of pine, grapefruit, aggressive bitterness, dry with light roasted character.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I find that I prefer to drink this straight out of the bottle as opposed to drink it out of the glass. When I drink it out of the bottle it doesnít taste like a black ale, not that I know what black tastes like. You canít really taste a color, right? Or can you? Iím so confused.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a deep brown, nearly opaque with a head which required a 5 minute rest to finish the pour.......aroma of roasted grains, slight bit of coffee......taste is coffee grounds, overly bitter in the middle and smokey coffee grounds in the end. Not overly thrilled but Iíve tasted worsee.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown color with a huge kahki head that has great retention and ample sticky lacing. The aroma is subdued with roasted barley, cocoa and some piney hops. The taste is really quite well balanced with cocoa, blackened toast, roasted grains and hops that both citrusy and piney. The palate is medium and smooth with soft carbonation. Finished long and dry. Overall Very tasty.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Guess Iím particular, but bought the í4-Way IPAí box anyhow. Familiar with the Rye and the Torpedo, but blindsided by this supposed IPA. Yesterdayís coffee grounds thrown into a glass of porter. Yuck. In no way does this qualify as an IPA, very disappointing.

Dark and roasted. Smooth, sweet, caramel, dark chocolate. The body is smooth and the finish is slightly burnt. A lingering roasted flavor.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark ruby red color. The head is about, um, 352 fingers high, and has a khaki shade. The texture is rather soapy, and the retention is rather inconsistent (usually the sign of a well-hopped beer). Some streaks of lacing are left behind.
S: There are some nice hops here - primarily herbaceous and piny in that typical SN fashion - but similar to the Snow Wit I had before this, its hop profile is rather restrained. But thatís okay, the rest of the aroma is restrained as well. Wait...anyways, Iím only getting touches of brown sugar, touches of dark fruit, touches of chocolate, and thatís it. Iím really let down by the aromaís lacking oomph.
T: It follows the nose well. The predominant flavor is hop bitterness - not much flavor, just bitterness. Iím getting some light caramel, brown sugar, and MAYBE a few espresso notes around the middle and back end, but nothing impressive. All in all though, this one is too bland and too generically bitter.
M: At the very least, this beerís lightness on the palate is laudable. Itís somewhat dry finishing, too, so there is a bit of danger to drinking this quick. If only it werenít so bland...
O: Totally disappointing. SNís standard porter is far more enjoyable. Thankfully, I have three more opportunities to give this another chance - this wasnít so horrible that I never want to drink it again. Iím just not that enthused by such a prospect. This is honestly my least favorite SN offering to date.
