COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blindfold Black IPA features a blend of hop varieties whose bright, fruity aroma complements the coffee-like flavors of dark roasted malts. Blindfold blankets us in darkness yet maintains a surprisingly light body and bold, hoppy character. This black IPA emerged from our Beer Camp program and builds on Sierra Nevadaís legendary love of hops with roasted malts for depth and complexity. Like its namesake, Blindfold is a bit disorienting--the color of a stout and the intense hop-forward flavors of a classic American IPA.

Pours black (duh) with a small tan head that leaves no lacing. Excellent roasted malt aroma intertwined with the grapefruit citrus from the hops. Doesnít taste as good as it smells but good nonetheless. Coffee and chocolate up front with the grapefruit bitterness at the end. Good body and carbonation. I liked this beer a lot.

Bottle. A- Cola, caramel, citrus, hoppy. A- Black color, dark liquid, beige head. T- Cola, caramel, bitter, roasty, malty. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- I just canít get over how dark this is yet tasted so bitter. Not my favorite black IPA, at all. I certainly wouldnít seek it out again. The aroma and color were about all I liked in this beer.

12oz bottle. Looks dark. Aroma of floral and light resinous/citrusy hops, roasted malts, some coffee and dark chocolate notes, and light dough. Flavor the same with a nice blend. Average texture. A solid black IPA.

Pours very dark brown, no light through, finger creamy tan head lots of thin lacing. Aroma tropical hops, roast and bready malt, slight citrus and earthy hops. Taste very slight bitter tropical fruit up front, roast and black malt mid mouth, earthy, tropical and roast dominate the long finish. Mouthfeel medium body, lowish carbonation, finish on the dry side, slight roast astringency. Overall great beer, I canít say classic in style, because the style doesnít officially exist yet, but this will prove to be one when it does, great value, classic Sierra Nevada.

Sierra Nevadaís Blindfold is big, bold, and bitter. If youíre like me, thatís exactly how you like your Black IPAís. Given Sierra Nevadaís reputation for making hop bombs, this black ale is every bit as aggressive as I expected. Iíve sometimes remarked that many Black IPAís are actually more of a brown color. Not Blindfold. This brew is thick, black, and heady. Lacing is stunning and the aroma is rich. Roasted malts, subtle dark fruit, and hop aromas of grass and pine - damn appealing. The taste is just about perfect with strong coffee and a sharp hop character. While a bit more complexity would be welcome, Blindfold is a superb Black IPA. To me, the name sounds a little kinky. Thatís fitting. This is a dark, sultry ale for drinkers with a serious hop fetish.

12 oz bottle from a 12pack sampler poured in tulip glass. Easy to drink Black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Really good. Strong roasted malt and coffee notes mixed with floral and piney hops. Solid dark color with a good tan head. Medium weight palate with strong carbonation. Roasted bitterness up front that was harsh at first but settled down. Coffee notes and toast. Keep it coming.

Good stuff. I bought a sampler pack of IPAs from Sierra Nevada and I am pleasantly pleased.

Pours black with lots of pretty lacing, and a lasting beige head. Grape and leather aroma. Taste is more grape with currants, grapefruit, licorice. Finish is bitter.

A complex brew of roast, fruit, flowers, and green grass - yet very drinkable. Another winner from SN.

Aroma of floral hops and roasted malt. Flavor is the same. Nice balance to the malt with the hops and full flavored. Almost a dry champagne like finish. This is really a nice beer from Sierra Nevada. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
