Blindfold Black IPA features a blend of hop varieties whose bright, fruity aroma complements the coffee-like flavors of dark roasted malts. Blindfold blankets us in darkness yet maintains a surprisingly light body and bold, hoppy character. This black IPA emerged from our Beer Camp program and builds on Sierra Nevada’s legendary love of hops with roasted malts for depth and complexity. Like its namesake, Blindfold is a bit disorienting--the color of a stout and the intense hop-forward flavors of a classic American IPA.

From a 12pack sampler, Easy to drink Black IPA, but nothing that makes me want to drink a bunch of these. Hmm this is about 4 years late.

Deep dark pour w/ a good retaining tan head that leaves some lacing. The roasted malt & hops kind of cancel each other out in the aroma making it slightly faint. The taste is dominated by the roasted malt w/ some lingering bitterness in the finish. It is a delight on the palate - light & creamy. A very nice black ipa!

Poured from bottle. Not too strong aroma of hops and roasted malt. Gorgeous black with tan head. I taste dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and malt up front followed by grapefruit, pine and earth hop flavors. Feel is dry but creamy. Excellent.

The beer pours an opaque black color with a large tan head that fades somewhat quickly, and the aroma blends roasted and caramel malts, resin and grassy hops, and a hint of booze. The taste is is mildly bitter balanced out with a slight sourness and a touch of umami, and the palate fuses a bitter finish, medium-full body, slick texture, and an average carbonation.

Pours very dark brown with a low tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, citrus, orange, roasted nuts, brown sugar, milk chocolate. Taste is loads of tropical fruit with apricot upfront along withpeaxh and grapefruit. Also some nice roasted malt notes, slight chocolate and honey. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy with medium carbonation.

A- Pours an inky black hue with a small, light brown head that fades fairly quickly. S- Light burnt malt, caramel, toast T- Deep coffee, burnt caramel, toast followed by a intense hop bitterness intermixed with notes of pine that hits and fades quickly and leaves residual, roasty coffee flavor on the tongue. M- Medium bodied with ample carbonation. D- Tastes like a big hoppy porter. Definitely not my favorite beer and one that I won’t be revisiting for more than a taste.

12oz bottle pours pitch black with a two finger creamy tan head and thick lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, hops, toffee, and chocolate. Mildly bitter hops and dark roasted malt flavor. Excellent.

Man….this style…. Clean deep black in the glass with a woody brown tint on the edge. One finger of tan head. The nose shows a light roast and earthy coffee note with a touch of acidity. Dry and acidic/bitter in the mouth. Some coffee and citrus rind.
