Blindfold Black IPA features a blend of hop varieties whose bright, fruity aroma complements the coffee-like flavors of dark roasted malts. Blindfold blankets us in darkness yet maintains a surprisingly light body and bold, hoppy character. This black IPA emerged from our Beer Camp program and builds on Sierra Nevada’s legendary love of hops with roasted malts for depth and complexity. Like its namesake, Blindfold is a bit disorienting--the color of a stout and the intense hop-forward flavors of a classic American IPA.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Black, not opaque, with a light brown head. Aroma of roast, a bit of dark chocolate, nice fruity and piney hops with a herbal note and a light coffee hint. Nice bitter and hoppy flavor, roasty, with a bit of dark chocolate and a hint of coffee in the finish. Rounded mouthfeel.

Very good beer although not much in the way of flavor or Aroma hops. Great appearance, thick luscious cream colored long-lasting head and lots of lace. ARoma is toasty malt and a little hop. Flavor is like aRoma, seems more like a black pale ale then a black IPA. Excellent body. Super drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle: Aroma has got a nice citrus hop upfront with a nice coffee-like malt backing that is quite nice. Appearance is a opaque black with a thick tan head that lingers around for quite a while. Taste has got a nice big bright citrus hop note with a nice finish of roasted coffee malts that is nicely balanced. Palate is high carbonation with a astringent hoppy aftertaste with an intermingling of malt characteristics. Overall, Quite nice brew from Sierra Nevada. I would buy this in a sixer if offered. Cheers!

A: sweat caramel and toffee nose A: khaki colored fluffy white head. Very dark reddish brown and clear. T: toffee and black coffee at first. Very balanced with bitter undertones. P: a little under carbonated for my palate. It does allow the bitterness to linger. O: it is ok. I would like more hops. But well balanced and very drinkable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thick black texture with viscous creamy head. Medium strong hoppy nose with malt backbone. Lasting flavor in back of mouth, but more a deep brown with hops. Good beer, but not a preferred style of mine.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours very dark brown with a thick beige head. Nose is very powdery chocolate and roasty with mild tropical hops. Not overly hoppy for BIPA. Taste is very robust and roasty with plenty of earthiness and tropical sweetness. Mild mango on the finish with slight ash. Kind of has that butteryness of a pine nut. Tasty but not very hop driven for a CDA. Solid

Really a very nice and thoroughly enjoyable black IPA. Pours black (shocking!) with a nice tan head. Nose is roasty, hops, and even a touch of chocolate and sweetness. Flavor is a nice combination of the hops with the roast flavors.

Nice pour, dark mahogany, almost black in the opaque center, with just a little clarity around the edges. It’s topped by a three-finger tan head, somewhat creamy yet loaded with large bubbles. The aroma contains some chewy dark malt (Yes, I chew with my nose.) followed by some fruity citrus hops. In the taste, the juicy hop flavors come forward first bringing along a zesty and earthy bitterness followed by some rooty malts... and then some more hop bitterness, which I highly approve of. Nice ale that certainly bears repeating.

From QC. Pours opaque cola-black. Tan thin head with fine carbonation and long legs. Smells quite burnt, roasted malt, bit of ash. Tastes similarly - deeply bitter/ashy but with a raisiny molasses sweetness. Quite sour. Body is thin-medium. Not bad - a bit too sour/burnt. But maybe it's just that I have such high expectations for both Sierra Nevada and black IPAs.

HKdIPA (284) - HONG KONG - JUN 30, 2014
Bottle from QClub at home. Brown-black pour with thin tan head. Aroma is very black IPA - roasted malts and coffee with piney hops. Taste starts out with rich roasted flavors then big and bitter - pine and resinous. Finish is slightly boozy and with a roasted malty sweetness. Solid black IPA especially for the price.
