Blindfold Black IPA features a blend of hop varieties whose bright, fruity aroma complements the coffee-like flavors of dark roasted malts. Blindfold blankets us in darkness yet maintains a surprisingly light body and bold, hoppy character. This black IPA emerged from our Beer Camp program and builds on Sierra Nevada’s legendary love of hops with roasted malts for depth and complexity. Like its namesake, Blindfold is a bit disorienting--the color of a stout and the intense hop-forward flavors of a classic American IPA.

This is a really good beer. The lighter body, roasted flavors and hops makes for a good drinking IPA.

Bottle, via the 4-way IPA mixpack. Dark dark brown pour with a pillowy beige head. Lots of thick lacing. Nose is sweet with citrus and floral hops, light cocoa, and moderate roast. Hops are the main event in a sturdy flavor profile. Citrus, florals, milk chocolate, and light roast. Lingering bitter finish. Really hits the mark, but the disclaimer is this is one of my favorite styles from one of my favorite brewers.

Mostly roasted malt notes in the nose. Lesser hop notes like pine and floral there too. Appearance is dark, great lacing pattern, clear, reddish brown/black. Palate is chocolate and plenty of grittiness. The palate is rich and complex, thick, chewy, with several layers. It works well and is different take on black ipa, and particular, different from others that work well. Well belended, put together, enjoyable.

Pours a very black color with a creamy light brown head. Nice hop and coffee flavor. Pretty bitter and dry with some great coffee flavors! Pretty decent beer.

Bottled 31 March 2013. Dark, black pour with thick mocha coloured head. Piney hops, coffee, roasted malt, slight anise, minty aromas. Roasted bitterness, fruity, resiny hop, coffee, herbal, liquorice flavours, bit of malt sweetness to round it a little. Medium bodied, soft mouthfeel as the beer warms. Drying, lingering bitter finish.

Pours black with large light tan colored head. Aroma is citrus hops and light roasted malts. Taste is roasted malt first and hops second. Really nice roasted type of bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice creamy mouth feel. Overall this is a wonderful example of the black IPA style as it perfectly balances the best qualitIes of IPAs and porters/stouts.

Pours dark ruby red, almost black, with a large tan head. Smells hoppy and roasty, hints of chocolate and coffee. Taste is mild earthy and piney hops and hints of chocolate and roast. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Sierra Nevada Blindfold Black IPA finishes with a lingering almost roasted bitter bite.
