Bottle from McHughs. Pours black with reddish hue. Large tan head. Aroma is coffee, floral, tobacco, roast coffee. Coffee, chocolate tobacco, earth flavour. Lovely smooth body. Very nice example of style.

12oz. bottle. Pours a medium well retained, light beige head, with slight lacing, over a clear dark brown (SRM 35) body......nose is light pine, resin, slight grapefruit peel, all from the hops, cocoa, chocolate, coffee from the roasted malts, no esters......taste is dry, light cocoa, coffee, chocolate from the malts, resin, pine, citrus all from the hops, balanced, no esters......mouth feel, light of medium body, no alcohol. This is a light Black IPA. It need more toasted malts to increase malty complexity, and more American hops to really meet the style. BJCP 7/3/13/4/6

Bottle from The Drink Store, Dublin. Pours clear very dark ruby with a big creamy tanned head. Aroma of cocoa, pine, coffee and even some solid liquorice, delicious and inviting aroma.Taste is rich dark malts, with resiny hops and solid liquorice in the front, some pepper and roasted notes as well, this is one of the best beers of its style.

Bottle from O’Briens Dun Laoghaire. Appearance: pitch black, thick brown head. Aroma: bay leafs, hops, leafy, slightly hoppy with chocolate and leather. Flavour: leather and smoke with some hoppiness, leafy and a lightly hopped finish. Lovely !

Pitch black, frothy oatmeal head, some lacing
Aroma of soft roast, dark malts, soft piney hops, hint of lemon
Taste of smooth soft dark roast, touch of dark chocolate, soft piney hops, plenty of zesty hop, nice dark malt backbone, some coffee roast comes through as it warms up, quite complex
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, quite bitter with sweet dark malts underneath, booze well hidden. Finish as main flavour.
Overall - Good BIPA, tasty stuff.

Black body with a thinish tan colored head.Aromas and flavors of earthy and piney hops over top of bitter chocolate and a tinge of licorice,some sweetness is there but not overly so.Not real complex but there are some decent flavors going on.

Pours black with a huge off white head. Aroma is light malt, coffee and just a hint of citrus. Head is very creamy, roasted malt on the tongue with an intense bitter finish. Love it.

Deep ebony pour with a nice head. Aroma is of a bit of cocoa and roast. Taste is earthy hops that give a kick but it is still light enough to be easily drinkable.

A beautiful beer, from the ebony-colored liquid to the dense, creamy layer of mocha froth that tops it. Aroma is a rich blend of coffee, cocoa, pine and citrus peel. The flavor has less going on, but still exhibits characteristic Sierra Nevada hop notes (citrus, pepper) followed by a charred black roast finish. A solid version of the style.
