12 oz bottle. The beer pours to a dark brown almost black color with a light tan medium head. The aroma has some citrus notes, roasted malt, & earthy notes. The taste is more ipa bitterness & a clean dry bitter finish. Overall a good black ipa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz btl. Pours dark with a brown frothy head. Aroma is of light espresso and hints of citrus. Taste is medium bitterness and lively with fruity hops through the swallow. A great blend of an IPA and dark porter/stout beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark dark brown, letís call it black, with mocha-colored highlights, a dense one-finger head and excellent lace. Caramel malt aromas with piney hops and dark chocolate. Flavors are similar, with the bitterness up front offset by the malt sweetness and a cornucopeia of tobacco, espresso, chocolate, dark fruit, lime, and smoke. Medium body, creamy and prickly mouthfeel, moderate carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

Dark brown tan head. Chocolate aroma. Burnt green flavor, its disruptive from the aroma. That flavor lingers. Wanted to like this a whole lot more.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown to black with a big, tan colored head of foam. The aroma is like burnt toast and black tea. A little bit fruity. Taste is fairly bitter and dry throughout. I get a bit of an ashy note on the back end. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation.

Black pour tan head. Roasty and pine aroma with a roasted malt and floral flavor. Bitter finish. A all around good beer, a little but of everything. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark with a coffee colored head that isnít large but has real staying power. Aroma of chocolate, malt and molasses, but you canít really smell the hops. Not nearly as sweet as the aroma would lead you to believe. Dark chocolate and currents. Again, not super hoppy. Not sure what makes this a black IPA instead of a stout. Pretty light and smooth in the mouth, but still with really good body. This isnít my favorite black IPA by a long shot, but it is a pretty good beer nonetheless.

Brief citrus hop notes to initial mouthfeel, with a consistent dark malt finish that is similar to a portion of the West-Coast style Porters I have sampled throughout the years. Overall, the recipe is a creative take on the respective advertised Black IPA style.
