COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blindfold Black IPA features a blend of hop varieties whose bright, fruity aroma complements the coffee-like flavors of dark roasted malts. Blindfold blankets us in darkness yet maintains a surprisingly light body and bold, hoppy character. This black IPA emerged from our Beer Camp program and builds on Sierra Nevada’s legendary love of hops with roasted malts for depth and complexity. Like its namesake, Blindfold is a bit disorienting--the color of a stout and the intense hop-forward flavors of a classic American IPA.

Euston Tap. Keg. Opaque black beer, little pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and smooth with fine minerally carbonation. Smooth and light dark malt. just the barest whisper of roast. Hops are light and semi sweet citric, little orange peel. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Light roast bitterness in the aftertaste. Tasty beer but really coming over as a Porter more than a Black IPA.

(Draught) Pours a mahogany body with a small beige head. Aroma of pine, roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor of chocolate, pine, roasted malt, and grapefruit with a dry, bitter finish.

Draft. Medium tan head atop cola-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, roast/coffee, light dark chocolate, earthy. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, earthy/grapefruit, some coffee, light cocoa. Smooth medium body, low carbonation, light resin. More malt-forward than normal for a Black IPA -- this is more a hoppy porter -- but very well done.

12oz bottle-retaining tan head with trailing lace-black with red tint. A-roasty/cocoa-med/dk malt, some pine/earthiness. T-roasty/ashy-dk malt/oat, earthy hops. Some character that comes in midpalate that doesn’t work/clashes a bit.

Tap at the brewpub on 3/23. Pours very dark with orange glints and a creamy light tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate. Med + body. Feels a bit creamy. Flavor is med dark chocolate and a lot of fruity hop. Even notes of coffee. Quite tasty.

Very dark brown pour with a khaki head. Nose is roasty with some herbal and pine hops. Citrus notes of grapefruit, a touch of soap, and a light malt sweetness. The flavor is fairly bitter and pine forward. Woody herbs, grapefruit, and quite a bit of roast. Light malt sweetness, chocolate, and a hint of coffee.

Keg at the Euston Tap - London. Pours dark brown with a fine, tight tan cream head. The nose holds burnt malts, dry pine, some herbal hops. Medium sweet flavor with wet burt wood, muddy dirt, some dry cocoa, moderate roast, nips of alcohol. Medium bodied with average to lively carbonation. Some burnt toast on the finish, subtle resinous pine, light alcohol burn, some grapefruit and baking cocoa. Decent but I would expect more from SN.

Draft. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate toasted coffee, chocolate and small hop aroma. Medium body and smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium toasted bittersweet flavor with a medium toasted bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This beer just met my expectations.

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, earthiness, pine, grapefruit zest and light floral notes. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, coffee, grapefruit, light pine and a hint of earthiness with a smooth dry bitter lingering roasty finish.
