COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Smoked Porter is a complex tapestry of rich, dark flavors, tailor-made for the cold months of winter. This is a dark, espresso brown with a full body and strong depth of flavor. The bouquet is big, with pronounced roasted malt and hints of hardwood smokiness. The flavor is reminiscent of dark chocolate truffles that greet the palate with moderate sweetness that gives way to a satisfyingly dry and warming finish. This beer was aged on Bourbon Oak for 8 months.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad’s Barrel Blast. Pours with a very dark, black body with a brown head that is slow to fade. Aromas of chocolate, smoke, salty, vanilla and barrel. Flavors are also smokey, with chocolate and tons of brown sugar. Very chewy mouthfeel. Very tasty.

Whispy head rests upon a dark brown beer. Nose of smoked wood in the camp fire vein..with a touch of smokey tartness around the edges. Nice chocolate and restrained yet refined smoked interplay in the flavors..nicely thick body and bourbon roundness allows the smoke to cling to the palate wonderfully adding a pretty fucking awesome dimension to the underlying porter. This is a down right awesome smoked porter..super focused, super refined, perfectly executed..such lovely marriage of chocolaty malts and smokiness. Hells yes.

A: The pour is viscous and just about black as night with a finger’s worth of mocha colored foam. S: Nose starts off with a great sweetness from vanilla, chocolate, and a touch of molasses. The smoke component is moderate and provides a nice depth rather than being all that you can perceive. Some roasted malt, light oak, and bourbon notes are present as well. T: The flavor opens up with an incredibly smooth chocolate flavor that provides a nice creamy, sweet base for the beer. A nice roasted malt flavor, vanilla, bourbon, and oak compliment the chocolate well. The smoke here is significantly more mild, but still there in the background. M: The body is medium with a low to medium level of incredibly smooth carbonation. D: Leave it to Sierra Nevada to make a well done smoked beer. A great beer that was well balanced and very easy to drink.

Sampled at Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines. Pours opaque with a medium-low fizzy light brown head, some low retention with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt, roasted, chocolate with oak, alcohol, bourbon, vanilla, prunes, and dates with moderate hops. Flavor is heavy malt and medium hops with bourbon and oak, dark fruit, and medium alcohol. Full bodied, fizzy, lively carbonation, and a sweet and spicy finish.
