allendodd (21), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 10, 2009 Pours a nice golden amber. Generous thick head. Malt dominates the nose with a hint of possibly some spice - possibly nutmeg (?). Looking at the description now while rating, I’m not seeing any spices suggested in the recipe. Huh. Malt is the reason for this beer and it is not bad finishes nicely but doesn’t go anyplace very interesting. I don’t hate it, but the rest of the 6 pack will be in the fridge for company looking for something that isn’t too scary. drseusszb200 (187), Florida, USA Nov 10, 2009 poured amber with a nice white head. smelled like hops and citrus. tasted like bitter hops one of better sierra nevadas. kopher (296), New York, USA Nov 10, 2009 clear light amber with yellowish fine head.
toasty aroma and sweet must hops -- tart like old lemons.
similar flavor, hops dominate, sweet/sour front with mild biting bitter finish.
somewhat thin body with mild carbonation.
not sure what makes this a celebration, but it’s good, and i guess it is SN’s MO to overhop everything, so it’s unlikely they’d be able to make a winter ale. patrickfannon (274), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 10, 2009 Draft. Pours hazy copper with a thin, foamy biege head. Aroma of citrus, barley, dry hops, and hints of caramel. Medium bodied. Average mouthfeel; nothing special. Smooth, dry finish. Average IPA. Nekronos (2261), Xalapa, Mexico Nov 9, 2009 INteresting, I had to leave one bottle of this, but wasreally nice hopy flavour. Curious thing I wrote the name under the name of another brewery: Sierra Madre. jmulv (82), Rensselaer, New York, USA Nov 9, 2009 Picked up a single bottle of this last weekend, and the guy working the register said that I’d love it. Well, let’s just say the guy knew what he was talking about. The smell is what I expect out of a nice wintery beer - hoppy, complex, and kind of sweet. Tastes very complex with a strong presence of malts, finishing with a nice amount of hoppy bitterness. Overall, it’s a joy to drink, and it warms your soul on the way down. McGrupp612 (29), hamburg, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 8, 2009 This is an all time classice. Good all the way around. Not enough aroma. Decent bitterness and good flavor. scoth (267), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Nov 8, 2009 Pours clear copper, with a one-finger beige head, fine and lasting lacing. Aroma of pine, grass, grapefruit, caramel and biscuit. Medium body, smooth, creamy and dry. Biscuit, caramel apple, and a really big pine flavor. The pine is very deep and satisfying in the medium bitter finish, just a touch of grass, citrus and maybe even some poinsettia. This is my kind of winter ale!
