Dec 26, 2007 Drinking one now, Im not a fan of very hop bitter beers, so I will rate this as fair as I can..Smell was obvious of hops...mainly, bitter hops, with aroma hops, nice floral scent...Pour is a nice amber that is hazy. Taste is sweet maltiness with a bitter end, as expected with a IPA, this would be considered a medium IPA to me. Great head retention, almost rocky off white. Over all, a good beer.

Dec 26, 2007 Bottle. This beer poured with a full, fluffy white head that lasted the entire time it took me to drink it. It also left a thicxk lacing on the glass. Tremendous floral-citrus aroma of hops. Intensely, hoppy and bitter flavor with the malt underlying it all. I thought this was a great beer. I wish I had access to it on a reguilar basis.

Dec 26, 2007 Poured an attractive orange/amber color with a nice white head that lingers for a while. Aroma is a piney hop smell, while the flavor is also a piney, grapefruit flavor. Beer is very smooth and drinkability is high. Lacing was good. This is a good beer that I will definitely have again.

Dec 26, 2007 Clear, bright copper-orange color. Thick, frothy white head, leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is piney hops. Refreshing citrus (grapefruit), pine hop flavor. Very smooth drinking, not bitter at all. Easy to enjoy several. I look forward to this every winter.

Dec 25, 2007 Updated: Feb 16, 2008Nice copper color with a creamy, persistent off-white head. Aroma is piney, with a hint of lemon and spice. Flavor is pretty similar. Goes down very smooth. I could drink this all night - or year round, for that matter.

Dec 25, 2007 Doesn’t really seem like a winter brew, and doesn’t seem like a hop heavy IPA either. Soft carbonation, medium body, goes down smooth. Good beer, nice amount of bitterness.

Dec 24, 2007 Updated: Oct 26, 200912oz bottle, 2009 release. Orange-copper with an off-white head and light lace. I get a lot of grainy malt out of the aroma, with a definitely sweetness and light tangerine from the hops with some dried apricot as well. The flavor has medium malty sweetness that is more like rich bread, and has lots of mouth-filling hop resin flavor and a med-strong bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. Malty without relying in too much crystal to fight with the hops. I can see why this is a classic, and one that people age. Still seems weird to me, but at least I see what they are thinking.
12oz bottle, (2007). Orange-coppper with a big beige head. Sweet caramel scent flows under juicy and citric hops. Sweet and malty and quite bitter with lots of citrus and piney hops. Soft carbonation in a medium body. Nice flavorful IPA, but I need more to really get my head around it. Tis the season though... (8,4,7,3,14=3.6)

Nice amber color with a good head. Heavenly aroma of piney ass hops.
Does this have the spice that most winter beers does? Nope and I love it. Finally, I get a beer that’s a bit darker and meatier, still has a kick ass hop presence, and isn’t loaded with cinnamon and nutmeg. Picked up 2 more sixers of this today to have over the holidays. Other than Alpha Klaus and maybe a Nogne Imperial, I won’t be drinking anything else this Christmas.
