| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Bottle. Appearance: Clear amber, light beige head. Aroma: Sweet citrusy hops. Palate: Medium. Flavor: Hops, citrus (grapefruit maybe?), very light pine comes out as it warms. Overall: Didn’t realize this was an IPA when I bought it, although it became pretty obvious as soon as poured it. Other than that, I still cant figure out why this is a holiday beer... the piney taste is mild at best. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty good IPA, especially for the price, but it shouldn’t be a seasonal brew. sneagrams3 (1764), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 1, 2005 12z bottle, 2005. Great clear reddish-amber hue. Looks almost orange in the light. Clinging white head. Resinous and piney nose. Skunky(the good way) and bready.Finnally a slight minty, citrus aroma. Good body with a slight malt character, right before the huge bitter hop flavor obliterates any and all traces of a malt taste. Still very piney, sticky and woody. Nice amount of malt up front. This is the way I like my IPA’s, with a little more malt backbone and character. jake65 (1760), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Bottle: Pours a deep golden/amber color with a frothy white head and good lacing. Aroma is malty and full of hops, taste is mostly hops. Nice blend of citrus, pine, and sweet malt. The overall balance of sweet and bitter is excellent. Nice IPA from Sierra Nevada. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 23, 2002 Very hoppy, mainly in the palate. Very smooth and appealing for an IPA. Probably one of the best beers from this brewer. Agreed, solid. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 17/20 | Dec 11, 2003 Updated: Nov 27, 2004Foamy white head over a clear reddish-copper body. Ample carbonation. Aroma’s hard to pick apart, I get some pluminess with some lingering sprucey hop notes. Just a touch of cardboard in there, I think. Nebulous malt backbone, this beer seems to center around its hops. They start out gently bitter (tempered by malt sweetness) but finish with a very enjoyable citrus/spruce taste. This isn’t a "big" beer, but is a nice way to get your hop fix. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 30, 2001 The is a great seasonal ale. A unique and pleasant taste. I’ve had it the past two winters and will enjoy it again. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 1, 2002 2001 - Although a year old, what a fantastic brew! Heavy hop nose with hints of raspberry. Rocky/creamy, off-white head with good lacing. Head is mostly lasting. Clear, sparkling, reddish-orange body, with medium-sized particles. Heavily hopped, with a dry, robust finish. Superb.
2002 - Would give the same category ratings except a 3 for Palate and a 17 for Overall. Not quite as good as the ’01 (was it the aging?). Flavor was a little sweeter and more floral than the ’01; perhaps a little heavier as well. Still, very good. Ethereal (1710), London, Greater London, England
