I have been waiting such a long time to taste this that it has become somewhat of an iconic beer. Unfortunately for this beer the Aussie scence has improved significantly as well as the availability of some seriously great US IPAs. So I have to now admit that this is rated on the basis of the competition. Still a great aroma and presentation in the glass. The hop presence is fine but not assertive. A bloody great beer as it would have been many years ago had I had it then. Now, a fine ale, but not a knockout.

Bottle from Albertsons. Surprised its taken me this long to get to this one. And a bit disappointing to boot. I guess was expecting a bit more from SN for a seasonal. A touch more bitterness and bite than the norm. Still good, but I was hoping for a bit more "Wow!"

Similar to torpedo but less intense pine aroma and taste, a little sweeter and malty as well. Mid tongue very nice sweetness with medium bitterness. Very tasty beer for the winter months when want a milder and sweeter ipa. Pretty dry finish as well. Would buy a single again likely. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It pours a cooper color with slight hazing with a large off white head that leaves plenty of lacing. It has a malt aroma of nuts and caramel. The hops are piney and citrusy with floral being prominent. It has flavors of nuts and a hint of caramel with the pine and floral flavors taking over the majority of the flavor sensation. The are hints of dark fruits as well. It is meduim bodied in texture with a bitter knock on the palate that is long lasting, but enjoyable.

Nice aroma of fresh pine, some floral notes and a hint spice. Deep orange red color, with a huge tan head. Rich malt up front. Sweet. Caramel and fresh bread flavors. Huge richness in the malt. Bitterness cuts in nicely. Fresh pine and notes of pepper on the finish. Full rich mouth feel. Malt bill must be huge on this beer. Should be an everyday beer. Outstanding.

12oz bottle pours clear toasted amber-red with 2 finger head. Nose is mango, fruity orange, melon, slighty sticky pine and citrus. Taste is crisp, round light-sweet toasted malt with orangey fruit and some grassy pine bitterness. Finishes with medium bitterness, citrus, melon, orange, toast.

Btl pours a slightly hazy Amber color with red highlights. Monsterous, billowy off white head lingers forever leaving huge puffs of lace clinging to glass. Aromas of fresh baked cookies, pine trees, and citrus notes. Tastes of sweet caramel, orange and resin. Medium body, soft mouthfeel, adequate carbonation and a nice mild bitter finish. I don’t know what it is about this beer but every year I try one bottle and end up going back to the store for a 12pk! Big malty backbone balanced with the fresh hop flavors and aromas make this beer perfect for the holidays. Get this beer right when it hits the shelves and you will understand why it has such a huge following.

IPA fresh hop style with a heavier malt backtone that makes it a bolder, cold-weather beer
