Sampled in a bomber aged for a year. A really smooth finish with a big flavor. Enjoyed this thoroughly.

On tap at Mellow Mushroom summer of 2011, from notes. Poured a dark brown with a good head that left consistent lacing. The smell was somewhat fruity and sweet, some vanilla and caramel. Flavor is delicious: syrup, caramel, vanilla, dark fruit, somewhat sweet. Medium body. Nice and complex ale.

On tap at the Amsterdam Cafe in San Francisco during Beer Week. Pours chestnut with a small tan head that fades slowly to a thin remnant, leaving a small amount of lace. The aroma has big notes of molasses, caramel and maple, along with wood. The flavour is intensely sweet with molasses and maple, along with anise, fruit, herbal hops and a slight spiciness. The finish is long and sweet with toasty malts and rich molasses. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a great malty sweet rich ale with nice maple and woody notes. 2012-02-16

Aged for a year on my buddies aging shelf at 50 degrees. Pours smooth with a tan head. Really smooth malty carmel, roasty chocolate, nice. Hops are present with a sprucy flavor that interacts well with the maple conditioning. Really solid. Loved it.

Pours pitch black with a well retaining head and some spotty lacing. Smells strongly of licorice and syrup. Taste is oak barrel, licorice, and syrup, with a malty grain flavor. It comes together beautifully.

750ml bottle $15 (I don’t know why we have to pay so much for this). Dark brown, almost black, decent head. Smells like alcohol, sugar, and malt. The flavor was malty and sweet like a certain candy I once had and cannot remember. Overall not bad at all but not great either especially given the price paid. I’ll pass next time. A - Pours a dark brown with a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate colored head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel malts, maple syrup, birch, some brown sugar, dark fruits, and a bit of booze. T - Starts off with a mix of sweet caramel malts, dark fruits, and brown sugar. Through the middle, maple syrup comes through with some birch and molasses. The finish is a mix of sweet caramel malts, maple, dark fruits, birch, molasses, and a bit of booze. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with sweet and warming finish. D - Very drinkable. Great complexity with a great balance. The maple syrup is a really nice touch.

dark murky brownish black color. Good long lasting head. One finger to a thick film. Lots of spotty lacing. nose is of maple syrup, malt, brown sugar, chocolate, and a slight bit of whiskey. Big sweet nose. sweet taste. sugar, chocoalte, caramel, malt, maple and birch syrup. lots of alcohol . Light and lively carbonation really cuts through everything. Very nice. Not as thick and syrupy due to it. Solid beer

Draught. Strong aroma, with a noted bourbon whisky (whiskey?) note. Dark brown with a stong malt character. A bit of nut and hop in the finish. Sip this
