3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 l1br4r14n (451) - Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA - AUG 29, 2011Bottle. Pours very dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma full and roasty, dark malt, brown sugar, molasses, caramel, and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is mostly malt, but well balanced sweet/roasty bitter. Very full flavors and mouthfeel. Reminiscent of DFH Indian Brown ale, with the addition of the maple/birch/brown sugar flavors. Very tasty!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ACHops (281) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 25, 2013
Version #2, on tap @ Brouwers. Pours deep, ruby tinged brown with a thin creamy head that fades quickly. Aroma is huge fruity tart sweetness. Taste is thin charred malt, medium vanilla and caramel sweetness, notes of chocolate, oak, fig, and a bit of molasses. Mouthfeel somewhat thin. This keg has to be a bit old, maybe that’s why the maple flavor has mellowed so much? The flavors have definitely melded with age, but I dunno this just doesn’t balance quite right for me. Still a tasty treat and rare enough to merit grabbing whenever you come across it.

750ml bottle. Pours a dark brown-black color with about a finger of light brown head. Aroma of rich roasted malts, maple syrup, chocolate, and vanilla. Taste is rich chocolate, molasses, maple syrup, roasted and caramel malts, and boozy.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled 6/29/2011. Pours fairly clear extremely dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of raisin, toffee, molasses, toast, biscuit, wood, chocolate, maple, clove, light vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with great balance and complexity of malt notes with well balanced wood notes. Taste of raisin, toast, toffee, chocolate, dark bread, wood, maple, molasses, light clove, roasted malt, slight char, and roasted earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of toffee, toast, raisin, chocolate, maple, molasses, dark bread, roasted malt, light clove, slight char, and earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of malt flavors with wood notes; with light hop balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent strong ale! Great balance and complexity of malt flavor and wood aging; and very smooth to sip on. Really enjoyed this one.

I don't really remember what this tasted like fresh other than it being really good but this is awesome. Smells strongly of maple syrup. Tastes like maple syrup but not as thickly syrupy and with a smoky tang to the finish. Great stuff.

Draft in a snifter at sheffields. Dark here but I think a red brown pour. Thin white head around the top. Can't detect an aroma. A wine barley taste to it. Aroma just opened up after first sip. Like apricot/prune smell. Strong. Can tell love was put into this. Not my style but can't knock it
