| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Malty aroma. And lighter in appearance - translucent dark brown chestnut. Tastes lighter than its counterpart on all parts. michael-pollack (2668), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Draught at Capone’s: Faint aroma of malts and slight birch. Poured very deep orange/very deep amber/brown in color with a small, off-white head that diminished but lasted around the edges. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of light roasted malt, burnt malt, wood, and birch. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Roasted malt finish. Disappointing. alexanderj (2248), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2009 On tap at SDBC. Color was a dark reddish brown. Aroma was sweet with caramel, sugar, citrus, molasses, roasted malt and earth. Flavor was the same; citrus, pine, earthy, cocoa, molasses and earth. Quite piny in the finish, especially for the style. Got better throughout; could taste the DFH head influence. puzzl (2619), New York, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Tap at the Blind Tiger for VSK. Dry bark, birch, wet green hops in the back of the aroma. Very dry and grassy, slightly citrusy. Lightish body, nicely carbonated, with a kind of nutty, chocolate, birch flavor. Fairly light. I was happy to see the birch come through in this one (unlike, say, maple syrup, which never works, ever), however it contrasted in a bit of an odd way with the hopping. Still, not a bad effort. I look forward to trying the big beer behind the this. JaBier (1219), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 25, 2009 On tap at the Winking Lizard Crosswoods location. Clear brown pour with a medium tan head. Citrus and pine hop nose with roast, apple and a bit of maple. Earthy hop flavor with a lot of tea character and a bit of roasty. Not bad, but I’m hoping Life & Limb is much better. ben4321 (996), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma: Aroma of dough, pine, citrus, caramel, orange, brown sugar, and nuts
Appearance: Pour is a somewhat murky brown color with a nice beige head
Flavor: Taste is kind of sweet with a lot of the same components as the nose
Palate: The body is light to medium, with a smooth feel and a doughy texture
Overall Impression:
Overall, I liked this one more then some of the other raters it seems (though as the 15th rater, I guess there isn’t enough data to know what other raters really think. I thought it was an interesting beer, a nice attempt. I’d like to try to big brother (Life and Limb), and see these two breweries collaborate again in the future. This one could probably use a some work rounding it into shape, but overall I enjoyed what they did here.
