Limb & Life is a companion to the big beer-an acorn off the larger tree. (Life & Limb) It is a 5% ABV small beer-a low-gravity beer made using the residual sugar as ďsecond runningsĒ from the first larger brew, fortified with American hops. This is a session beer.

Tap at the Graduate in Davis, CA. Pours really dark brown with a slight beige head. Aroma of citrus hop. Barely. Medium/thin body with pretty mild carbonation. Flavor reminds of tea in a way. Itís malty and hoppy. A very tasty beer, but far from a big beer.

On tap at Falling Rock poured a clear reddish brown with a lasting beige head and good lacing. Aromas of burnt carmel, toffee, wood, light maple and light spice. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, burnt carmel, wood and a hint of spice with a smooth dry malty finish.

JW77 does it again! Brown pour. Small head. Aroma has citrus hops, dough, caramel and brown sugar. Flavor is pretty big for a 5% beer. Lots of caramel and citrus with some light nutiness. Good.

On tap at Capones. Poured a deeper orange color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of roast, a little earthy, and some pine. Tastes of the same.

Tap at Rattle N Hum. Deep amber pour with a tight creamy white head. The nose is quite hoppy with a lot of lightly fruity piny hops. A fairly distinct grassiness with a kiss of balsam and juniper. Moderate bitterness but the hops come across a little bit soapy, unfortunately. Itís not overly distracting, but itís there. Moderate bitterness with a tiny bit of grapefruit and caramel as well. It has a kiss of astringency on the back, but I donít really mind that either. Itís fairly unusual and itís pleasant enough, but itís not mind-blowing.

On tap, pour was brown with white head. Aroma has notes of roast, some earthy hops, touch of grain. Taste is pretty simple, but does the job with roast, hops, some earth and dark fruit, touch of roast. Not bad.

Growler at the release of Flaming Fury. Pours a clear brown with a thin white head. Smells like cigarette butts, smoky and acrid. Flavor is similar, just acrid bitterness. This was gross.

On tap at the Graduate, Davis. Pours dark brown with a thin off-white head and a light treacle aroma. There is a dry brown ale flavor, slightly carbonated, and more substantial than expected from a secondary brew.

"I think this got a raw deal being that it was served alongside 4 different versions of the bigger beer, but even so...we started with it, and it was pretty watery thin right off the bat. the aroma was light but pleasantly hoppy, and the flavor was also nice and refreshing, if a bit on the weak side, even for a brown. it was pretty unique, though, tiny bits of syrup flavorsmingling with the hops. going back to it after sips of the 10% beer, though, were just a waste."
