Our handmade Estate Ale highlights the flavors of home. From the sun-drenched fields of California’s North Valley comes our Estate Ale. It’s rich with the flavors of the valley—hops with earthy, grapefruit-like flavors and layered spicy aromas, and barley with mild sweetness and smooth, toasted flavors. Enjoy this remarkable homegrown ale, made with organic wet hops and barley grown at our brewery in Chico, and one of the few estate-made ales produced anywhere in the world. Together, these crops grow alongside the brewery to make a truly unique brew.

Bottle - Golden orange pour with great head. Aroma is mostly of sweet toasted barley. Flavor is like aroma with sweetness from the barley up front and hops in the back. Was expecting more hops and not as much much barley sweetness, but still a good beer.

Good. Citrus after notes and a good, deep smell that reminded me of the first time I tried sierra nevada. 2012 bottle.

Poured at 60 F degrees. A - An amber red body with with a 2 finger moundy eggshell head that sinks around the edges and holds a cylinder crest in the middle. The head is beautiful and has deeply sunken trenches all through it. Excellent retention. Very nice patterns of lacing. Thick mounds rest on the edges of the glass. S - Aromas of earthy hops, green and sultry. Lemony zest, grapefruit resides in the background. I’m having a hard time picking out aromas. Kind of weak on the nose. T - Herbal pine floods the senses immediately. Peppery notes from the hops. A caramel cracker malts stands and backs the leafy green hop. Toasted grains. Some bright strawberries, and raspberry show full strength toward the middle and almost takes over all flavors for a brief moment and then start to die as the pine juices slowly flood the palate towards the end. Mango and melon round off the the malt. Bits of tannins on the finish. Very refreshing finish. M - Medium body, well carbonated. A full lushy feeling. This is a great IPA but too expensive for what is. I respect fact that it’s homegrown barley and hops and the fact that it’s organic. All in all its a very refreshing and fresh IPA. But It’s not worth $10 for a bomber. Serving type: bottle 02-06-2011

Waxed topped bomber bottle poured a clear orange hue w/ a fair head. Big malt an hop aromas. Taste is a crisp grapefruit citrus. Nice balance gives the bitterness some backbone and makes this very drinkable.

A pint from the tap. Clear deep amber-copper with red hues and a nice white lacy head. Piney hop nose, fresh and floral, with nutty malts and mellow tropical fruits. Full hop flavor, sweet caramel malt, roasted nuts and medium bitterness. Medium bodied, super balanced and highly drinkable.

This is actually the Estate Homegrown Wet Hop APA, NOT the Harvest Ale. But, RB thinks the Estate is only an alias for Harvest. This is not the case. I attempted to add the Estate Wet Hop, but the website wouldn’t allow me to select a brewer in order to complete the submission. Pours a clear, bright copper with a tall foamy cream colored head. Excellent root beer float-like head retention. Ample rich lacing around the glass. Mild bouquet of grass and citrus. It has a slick, moistening mouthfeel. The beer has a perfect balance of grain and hops that yields mild, yet fresh and pleasant alternating flavors of sweet citrus to tart grapefruit. I absolutely love this beer. The style is in my wheel house, but I’d imagine anyone could find the specialness in this one. Superb IPA that drinks like an APA.

Almost three fingers of head on a hazy deep amber colored body. Beautiful. The aroma is faint with some lemon and honey. A bold taste: lemon and grapefruit bitterness all over the place with some malt sweetness in the background... way in the back. The bitter finish is long lasting too. A crisp texture with moderate carbonation. A wonderfully bold IPA, could use some work in the aroma area though.

Tasted in 2009 (backlog). Cloudy amber in color with a decent sized off-white head. Aroma is of earth, moss, malt, and leaves. Taste is of spicy hops, light grass and caramel.
