Commercial Description:
This is one of the only estate-made ales available in the world today. Produced with hops and barley produced on the premises of our brewery in Chico, this ale reflects the flavors of our surroundings in California’s fertile central valley. By growing out own ingredients, we ensure the finest two-row barley and the freshest hops on earth, from the field and into the brew kettle.

Fresh piney citrus hopping in aroma,as would be expected in any S.N. Hop brew, flavor is unusual, the hoppiness does come through, but the malting has almost more of a grain taste then a caramel, that coupled with the slightly thinner body, leaves me with the impression that I’m drinking a czech pilsner with American Hops.Different ,rewarding satisfying, pricey to be sure even though we heard they are still losing money at that price

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear copper amber with a medium frothy off white head that lasts while leaving good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a strong pine and floral hops. Thin mouthfeel wtih a smooth pine hop flavor with floral and grapefruit. Easy to drink hiding the alcohol well with a nice dry finish. A very good IPA from Sierra Nevada.

Chico Estate on Tap. The beer pours to a really deep amber body that’s clean with a really creamy white head and really awesome lacing. The flavor’s pretty malty for an IPA. Sweet hops fill in on the flavor. The aroma is sweet and almost red-winey. Some grapefruit. Some grapes. The flavor is pretty hoppy and bitter grassy hops and pale malt. The palate is fairly smooth. Bitter but not sharp. Very easy to drink.

The Dan Journal #300! Thanks Dan! Tasted 11/19/09. 24 oz bottle. 2009 Vintage. Filtered with a copper amber hue. Mildly lacing bone white head. Aromas of good hops, but somewhat faint. Touch malt bill. Rather full bodied with a big malt bill. Great sweetness that coasts along with the palate; neither a detriment nor a distracter. Accentuates the total body. Bright and crisp, but just long enough for the bitter and ample hops to slide you into the finish. Every flavor is solid yet nicely melded. They all shine but share. I was hesitant on the price, but this is very well crafted. The palate flows so smoothly. Nothing overt. Just good, big drinking. Gotta respect the Estate status. Quality.

Dark amber pour with tan head. Fresh cut grass and wet hoppy nose. Flavor has a nice bite of hops (citrus) up front that is followed by a roasted malt. Nice cream texture with decent mouthfeel. Clean bitter finish.

Sample at Falling Rock Tap House in Denver. The beer pours a honey color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Citrusy hops aroma along with notes of sweet malt and spices. Medium body with a grapefruit character and flavors of hops, earthy malt and caramel. The finish is hoppy with a citrus aftertaste. Pretty solid all around.
