COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our handmade Estate Ale highlights the flavors of home. From the sun-drenched fields of California’s North Valley comes our Estate Ale. It’s rich with the flavors of the valley—hops with earthy, grapefruit-like flavors and layered spicy aromas, and barley with mild sweetness and smooth, toasted flavors. Enjoy this remarkable homegrown ale, made with organic wet hops and barley grown at our brewery in Chico, and one of the few estate-made ales produced anywhere in the world. Together, these crops grow alongside the brewery to make a truly unique brew.

25.4 oz. bottle. 2012 edition labeled "Estate Homegrown Ale." Pours a dark gold, almost amber. Huge, white head. Aroma of pine, but not overpowering so, as is often the case with hop monsters. Very fresh, sweet evergreen taste. A hint of citrus. Full body, heavy mouthfeel. I did not have the 2011, but I did have the first pour of the 2010 in the Sierra Nevada taproom, and they are similar: great body, hoppy but not over-the-top, and refreshing.

A decent paddle ale, unfortunately not as interesting as we had hoped. Pours a nice clear amber with a grey head. No smell whatsoever. Taste is basic, with some caramel upfront, and coriander and a light hoppiness in the finish. Had in the bottle.

This beer has a very mild aroma. It has a beautiful copper color and clear flavor with starts off citrusy and develops a smokey aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a medium rust with a huge head. Great lacing. Nicely balanced with upwards hops with malt in the background.

Smell is biscuity malt with a hint of grapefruit hops. Taste is wry close to Sierra Nevadas pale ale. A decent ale but dosent stand out for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 mL bottle from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Deep orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of lemon and orange peel with some background caramel. Just a hint of soap in the aroma as well. The taste is great with grapefruit upfront that is more juicy than bitter. There is some spiciness on the finish and the flavors are well balanced for an IPA. Nicely done.

11/15/2014. 750 ml. bottle. Deep amber with an off-white head. Mild tropical fruit aromas with hints of caramel. The bitterness seem off a bit, almost metallic. This is followed by light caramel flavors and finishes off slightly bitter. Somewhat muted. I can’t say I’m a fan.

750 ml bottle at home. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized beige head that leaves nice lacing. The aroma and flavor have resiny/piney hops, grapefruit citrus, caramel, toffee, toasted bread, herbal character, floral and grass notes, somewhat earthy with a nice dry bitterness to the finish.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/9/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, balance, and robustness of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a really excellent wet hop IPA. All around great robustness, balance, and complexity of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and fairly crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Nice amber pour with a big head. Aroma of citrus, pine, and a bit of biscuit. Flavor matches.

Pours clear amber with a big head. Nose is floral hops, brown sugar, toasty malt. Taste has a toasty malt, grapefruit, some earthy hop flavor, the hips are s bit spicy too, bit of bitterness on the finish. Like a hybrid of a American pale and amber. Not bad.
