Our handmade Estate Ale highlights the flavors of home. From the sun-drenched fields of California’s North Valley comes our Estate Ale. It’s rich with the flavors of the valley—hops with earthy, grapefruit-like flavors and layered spicy aromas, and barley with mild sweetness and smooth, toasted flavors. Enjoy this remarkable homegrown ale, made with organic wet hops and barley grown at our brewery in Chico, and one of the few estate-made ales produced anywhere in the world. Together, these crops grow alongside the brewery to make a truly unique brew.

Bottle - Golden orange pour with great head. Aroma is mostly of sweet toasted barley. Flavor is like aroma with sweetness from the barley up front and hops in the back. Was expecting more hops and not as much much barley sweetness, but still a good beer.

"nice brew. maybe not worth the elite price tag, but seeing as how i didn’t pay that much... all around full bodied, smooth, and full flavored hoppy brew. spicy and citrus. well done. "

It foams a tall light beige and rocky foam head after the pour. This hangs on well and maintains a nice cap on top of a deep amber colored beer with good clarity and some visible carbonation. The aroma is full of heavy pine, citrus and herbal hop notes on top of modest bready malt base. For Sierra Nevada and compared to there other fresh hop ales this one seemed quite light on hop flavor and bitterness. Still it was quite good and hop forward. Pine and citrus notes hit the tongue first. The middle reveals the mild bready malt base and then moves to an average herbal hop bitter fade into the finish. Its palate has a middle of the road feel with medium balanced carbonation.

This is an outstanding India Pale Ale. Hoppy as hell. Very hoppy. I just adore this kind of beers. Diversity of spicey-fruity-bitter impressions just made my head turning.

Pours a nice copper color with off-white head. Pine, citrus, and floral notes are present on the nose; all follow onto the palate. The pine is most prevalent. Finishes clean.

[Tap] Pint at Fat Jack’s in Bloomington, IL during a Sierra Nevada tap takeover. Bright orange pour is capped by a dense white head. Aroma is heavy on wet hops, floral and citrus. Moderately hoppy, with perfume and tea leaves also quite prominent in the taste. Nice, sticky mouthfeel with a nice lingering hop bite. Tasting notes from 11/2011.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours orangish gold with a white head. Taste pine, citrus, slightly bitter. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Crispy’s. Fluffy white head and a deep amber body. Hoppy and bready aroma. Flavor is full of fresh citrusy hops with a distinct vanilla note. Palate is rich. Tasty beer.

Rated on 10-27-2009 (Bottle) This beer forms a large fizzy ivory head with a short retention, mostly transparent/slightly hazy orange body, fizzy carbonation, and a good amount of lacing. The Aroma is caramel malt, barley, pine, citrus, grapefruit hops, and evergreen trees. The Taste is moderately bitter, caramel malt, barley, pine and citrus hops. The Palate is tingly and thin. This is a medium bodied beer. Overall, this beer is very, very quaffable, worth trying and a beer I would enjoy drinking again. I recommend trying this beer even if IPA’s are not a style that one likes because one just never knows what one may find!

Hoppy sweet malt nose. Cloudy amber with a 2 finger head. Taste has malty sweetness with a good hop kick, caramel, honey, some citrus fruits. Big mouth feel with a long slight booze, malty hop finish.
