3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 8, 2013 More reddish than amber, some orange tint.
Aroma is fresh fruit with some light pine and a bit of spice and malt. Some mineral and hints of alcohol. A little disapointed in aroma-pretty mild but still good. Not that hop charge I was expecting from these American power-hops in aroma or in taste. Thats ok though. After tying another bottle on a nother day: I get dankness resin and lots of dankness and more pine with some light citrus-there they are! just in a different bottle :)
Taste is smooth medium-medium full body. Random hits of dry alcohol. Caramel, burnt carmel notes. Some dry breadyness.Hops:fruit, light pine, mint, minty finish.Minerally hard water quality to it. Mint-pepperminty bittering with pine..Pretty good ipa-fairly fresh nothing too above average. I have my favorate red ipaís and this is not one of them.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle: Wonderfully hoppy note upfront on the nose. Appearance is a dark red with a thick off white head that lingers. Taste is nicely hoppy with a bit of malts, but the SImcoe and Centennial a big on this one, which is not a bad thing. Palate is medium carbonation in the mouth feel, and a light hoppy note in the after taste. Overall, Good hop nectar. Cheers!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I used the word "foresty" to describe this. Woody hops, earthy, sweet malts, even a hint of smoke. This is a tasty, hearty IPA.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear dark amber - thick, sticky lace - nose of garlicky Simcoe, some earthy Amarillo, some cheese rind - underlying toasty maltiness and light toffee - soft carbonation, medium body - a little thin-flavored and slightly metallic in character - flavors of buttered toast, light toasted maltiness, followed by mild garlic - watery, medium-bitter finish - meh - please tell me this hasnít replaced Tumbler as the new Fall seasonal.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle-Purchased at Celebrate in Las Cruces September 2013
Pours deep amber copper hue with a foamy eggshel head verging on a lite tan. nose is big hops mostly woody, lite catty notes, some citric with a big toasted malt base with some slight sweetness. flavors exhibit the fine line between an amber ale (sweet malts, toasted notes, carmel) and woody citrici hops (grapefruit, lemon, lite tropical notes). Body is crisp and refreshing for a beer of this type. again, trypical Sierra Nevada hoppy notes and yeast qualities. Long woody and piney finish with some tart grapefruit as well. Very solid seasonal offering once again!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Picked this well-deserved tick up at the Circle K, Bradfordville. Squat west coast longneck, fair label. Intense brown-orange beer, clear, with a very light tan head which had a chainmail cling to the side of the glass. Generally a pretty nice, malty/hoppy red aroma, though there were a few off notes. Woody, hop-prickly, fairly dry. Somewhat starchy mouthfeel, good fine-grained carbonation, stiff US hop finish and aftertaste. Pretty much what Iíd expect out of a Sierra Nevada Red IPA.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Typically, the red ale style is malt-forward but SN is going for a West Coast hop-forward version. After a tea-colored pour, featuring three-fingered head and lasting lace, I do pickup a citrusy, tropical aroma from the use of three whole-cone hop varieties. But I am missing the greater malt emphasis of caramel and other malt flavors. The bottles are without a date stamp, so I donít know if the beer is older. I applaud the sixth-largest brewery in America innovating, but SN just canít compete in flavor with the smaller runs by the true craft makers.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma is piney hops, yeast and a hint of malts. The flavor is light grapefruit, tropical fruit, citrus, malts and a mix of bitter and beery in the finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: SEP 7, 2013 I had high hopes for this but something with sierra Nevada has gone wrong. Individual hop flavors get lost in a spicy bitterness. its overwhelming with the citra simcoe and centennial flavors struggling to break through. I started noticing this issue in all their IPA with last years celebration release. Thats just about when i noticed torpedo lost its floral citrus finish to just bitterness. Flipside gets better as it warms but I really like citra and simcoe hops and this beer isnít the finest example of their use.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Mellow fruit aroma with other notes of roasted caramel, strong hops and amber style malts. Deep reddish/copper with an amber tint and thin foam. Bitter hops upfront with the classic red/amber malts that you see in a red ale. I get notes of deep, roasted caramel, amber malts, cinnamon and maple. Overall, Not bad at all. A perfect blend of a red ale and an IPA. Iíd give this an A rating.
