Flipside Red IPA is a rebuttal to the mild-mannered beers of summer. Tropical fruit and citrus hop flavors from the use of whole-cone Citra, Simcoe and Centennial hops are the perfect notes for this in-between season.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2013 I had high hopes for this but something with sierra Nevada has gone wrong. Individual hop flavors get lost in a spicy bitterness. its overwhelming with the citra simcoe and centennial flavors struggling to break through. I started noticing this issue in all their IPA with last years celebration release. Thats just about when i noticed torpedo lost its floral citrus finish to just bitterness. Flipside gets better as it warms but I really like citra and simcoe hops and this beer isn’t the finest example of their use.

Bottle. A: Dark red with a foamy creme head. Nice lacing. N: Deep hops - pine and grapefruit, leafiness and biscuit. Touch of herbs, lemongrass and some coriander. T: Well bittered. Touch of sweetness. M : Medium body, light stickiness. O: Red IPA? Whatever they want to call it. This is a worthy quaff. Better than a couple IRAs like Dogfish or Double Mountain.

A decent hopped beer with malt and caramel flavor. Ligjt on the palate and easy to drink.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate pine, lighter citrus, light tropical fruits, and a hint of toasty notes. It pours a transparent amber with a two finger beige head that eventually fades to a thick film. There is a lot of soapy rings left on the sides of the glass, The flavor starts with a quick dose of light-moderate tropical fruits with a hint of caramel. The finish has moderate pine, lighter citrus/grapefruit hops, and a touch of toastiness. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark red with tall, long lasting white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of citrusy hops, caramel malt and tropical fruit. Body is medium and tangy. Citrusy, piney and earthy hops dominate the palate while caramel malt and ripe fruit provide support. Finish is long and grapefruity. Very good, hoppy brew.

Been looking forward to this one, so it only compounds the disappointment. Looks beautiful when poured, but the beer itself is barely mediocre...it that. Skip the six, grab a single in a pick. Chalky and sour...very surprised and disappointed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft pour into a pint glass. Pours a darker amber with a beige head of velvety foam. Decent retention. The aroma is papery, pine, herbal. Taste is lightly bitter and a little bit sweet. I get aittle bit of honey and skunk when I really dig in. The mouthfeel is fizzy, as I would expect. Lively carbonation. Not really one of Sierra Nevada’s better beers.

Bottle: Poured a light brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of citrus notes with some caramel malt clearly noticeable. Taste is also dominated by citrus notes and loads of caramel malt notes are also evident with quite a bit of residuals sugar. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation. Too much caramel malt for my taste with the Citra hops not coming out as much as I was expecting.

Hop aroma is low and muddy. Appearance is reddish with a white head with avg retention. Flavor has a high bitterness, but the hop flavor is lacking. Malt is bready. Mouthfeel is medium with medium carbonation. Overall, I'm not impressed. It's just an ok beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark caramel orange with reddish hues when backlit. Aroma is hop bitterness in the form of blood orange citrus and malt. Flavor is bitter with tropical fruit and malt - classic red IPA character. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, and malty bitter finish.

Not tasting a whole lot of citrus that they’re talking about. I like the caramel malty taste, but the hop profile isn’t very diverse or interesting. I’d rather have a hoptimum or their pale ale.
