Flipside Red IPA is a rebuttal to the mild-mannered beers of summer. Tropical fruit and citrus hop flavors from the use of whole-cone Citra, Simcoe and Centennial hops are the perfect notes for this in-between season.

9/26/2013: Sierra Nevada Flipside Seasonal Red IPA 2013... Aroma: Ripe tropical fruit and melon (ugh, stupid Citra hop!) with a twish of pine; suggestion of caramel malt. Appearance: Hazy bronze color with reddish highlights and a swirling column of carbonation in the center; dense, lasting, beige-colored head on the top; solid lacing from top to bottom. Flavor: Lots of hops right up front and luckily the Citra is a bit over-powered by the Simcoe and Centennial flavors; good dose of grapefruit peel and some resin in the finish; middle allows some of the toasty, lightly caramel underlying maltiness to pop through the hops for just a slip second or two and add just enough sweetness; hints of spice, dried herbs/flowers, and tea here and there; fairly generous level of bitterness; finishes very clean. Palate: Solid medium body; well carbonated to help bring out the hops, texture is slightly slick. Overall: Pretty good IPA in general, but doesn’t quite hit on all cylinders for me as a Red IPA, but maybe that’s because the Pacific Northwestern Style Red IPA is the yard stick I use for the style... 12 fl. oz. bottle (Alc. 6.2% by Vol.; 3235111:12) from Trader Joe’s in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #233 for this beer.

355 mL bottle. Hazy red-brown. (Does that make amber?) Just a ring of head, but it laces nicely. Really appealing floral-citrus aroma. A little sweet, but not overly so. Fresh hops dominate the flavour, but there is a little toast from the malt. bitterness is fairly mild for the style, especially in the finish. Nice beer, though.

Bottle to a pint at the BBQ Jam session. Thanks Jason. Pours amber with white head and lacing. Good hop profile and flavors ... Yet balanced and smooth... Another reliable offering from Sierra Nevada ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 fresh bottle into a goblet. Super deep, dark ruddy pour. Bit of off white head. Aroma is sugar, caramel, grass. Taste is bitter up front, caramel, sugar, roasted nuts...Not great, nothing special....but easy drinking. Just a hopped up amber ale.

Recent tasting of the SN Oktoberfest and Tumbler Brown kind of ruined this one for me. A decent take on a fall IPA I guess, but I’ve had better. Impressive, lasting fluffy off-white head. Lots of peppery notes coming through for me. Very bitter hops finish. Nice body and lovely almost opaque reddish brown color. Typical SN quality, so definitely better than most, but I definitely prefer their Ruthless Rye and Torpedo IPAs.

12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s Chapel Hill. Pours a rich mahogany, slightly hazy, with a one inch frothy manila head. Nose is strong tropical fruits (passionfruit) and flavor is moderately sweet up front with a sharply bitter finish. Moderate to strong carbonation and slightly sticky body.

Bottle, as pictured. i didn’t really take too many notes when I had it. Poured a deep reddish color, somewhat hoppy but nothing crazy. Nice beer as always from Sierra Nevada.
