Flipside Red IPA is a rebuttal to the mild-mannered beers of summer. Tropical fruit and citrus hop flavors from the use of whole-cone Citra, Simcoe and Centennial hops are the perfect notes for this in-between season.

9/26/2013: Sierra Nevada Flipside Seasonal Red IPA 2013... Aroma: Ripe tropical fruit and melon (ugh, stupid Citra hop!) with a twish of pine; suggestion of caramel malt. Appearance: Hazy bronze color with reddish highlights and a swirling column of carbonation in the center; dense, lasting, beige-colored head on the top; solid lacing from top to bottom. Flavor: Lots of hops right up front and luckily the Citra is a bit over-powered by the Simcoe and Centennial flavors; good dose of grapefruit peel and some resin in the finish; middle allows some of the toasty, lightly caramel underlying maltiness to pop through the hops for just a slip second or two and add just enough sweetness; hints of spice, dried herbs/flowers, and tea here and there; fairly generous level of bitterness; finishes very clean. Palate: Solid medium body; well carbonated to help bring out the hops, texture is slightly slick. Overall: Pretty good IPA in general, but doesnít quite hit on all cylinders for me as a Red IPA, but maybe thatís because the Pacific Northwestern Style Red IPA is the yard stick I use for the style... 12 fl. oz. bottle (Alc. 6.2% by Vol.; 3235111:12) from Trader Joeís in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #233 for this beer.

Reddish/orange pour with a thick slight off-white head. Grapefruit, redcurrants, rye backbone, pine, resinous, bread, caramel sweetness. Nicely balanced between sweet and bitter, with a moderate hoppy finish. Decent carbonation.

Pours a very nice reddish-orange color with white head. Citrus, tropical fruits, and some pine notes on the nose; all follow onto the palate. Finishes with a little spice note that makes this interesting.

Not bad and quite enjoyable. Drinkable and not so bitter but too thin for this brewery it was.

bottle- pours hazy, deep burgundy with lots of bubbly carbonation, creamy, khaki head. nose is herbal hops, nutty, caramel and toasted hops. medium to full bodied. just really dry and almost metallic in nature. Itís a Red IPA that could use some refinement.

Bottle at home. Nice dark pour of darker maroon. Rocky head of bout 1/2 inch. Has a fairly forward dull ipa aroma. First taste is somewhat reminiscent of b.o., if thatís possible. Not sure if I can appreciate this taste. So first it was IPA then double IPA then black IPA then white IPA and now red IPA? WTF? Any beer can be made like an IPA but why have 15 different styles for it? Go figger. Yes, taste is IPA all over the place, bitter rude nasty chewing on grapefruit rinds happy BS, as usual with this style. There, now you have it, a red ale that certainly tastes like an IPA. After all these years, Iím still not sure what you guys dig in the IPA. Letís get back to the taste pf real beer and forget about using hops as a preservative. After all, we are in the 21st century, why use hops as a preservative? Lets get to the root of real beer and forgo this IPA happy bullshit. IPA,: the next pale lager of macro brews. Overall? Not impressed.

Bottle at home. Pours dark copper. Head is off white which reduces to thin and wispy. Floral, pine, citrus nose. These aromas are there but not strong enough for me. Flavour is wood, dry sweet with stringent bitterness on the finish. Body is light, too light. This gives it a water mouthfeel which isnít great. Thought this beer would open up a bit when a bit warmer but it doesnít. Disappointing.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours reddish brown with a tan head. Taste citrus, pine, Carmel. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
