daleharshman (181), San Diego, California, USA Mar 13, 2009 12th release bottle from Pacific Liquor in North Park (San Diego, CA). Pours a bright ruby-orange from the bottle with a big frothy off-white head. The head lasts a while and leaves great lacing. Aroma not as strong as I would have suspected, but consists of pine and an almost vegetable quality. Strong taste of spicy pine with generally less citrus notes than other California IPAs. Dry and bitter finish. Light and easily drinkable. A good IPA, especially for the price. mjs (1445), Helsinki, Finland Mar 12, 2009 (Bottle, 12th Release, at Kaisla, Helsinki, on 2009-03-09) Amber and clear. Medium sized, long lasting and bit tan coloured head. Grass, lot of hops and citricness aroma. Full bodied and bit dry palate with medium carbonation. Malts, lot of hops, saltiness, grass, citricness, pine and bit of sweetness in taste. Long lastin aftertaste containing pine, malts and bitterness. lufkina (5), Strongsville, Ohio, USA does not count Mar 11, 2009 Surprisingly hoppy for the cost ($4.00 a pint in OH). The aroma was distinctly citrus and evocative of a delicious IPA. The beer itself however is noticeably lighter and easier drinking. Definitely worth a selection when you see it on the menu. NomDeBeer (397), Maryland, USA Mar 9, 2009 Pours a clear copper color with a sizable white head. Aroma is all hops - pine and grapefruit. Taste is more hops plus a little nut and caramel for balance. And this is well-balanced, its not an unmitigated hop bomb. Very drinkable and enjoyable. Being a hop head, I’d like to have just a little more bitterness in this beer, but that’s splitting hairs. Damn good. Birdiebeagle (777), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 9, 2009 Bottle Pours a cloudy light brown with a good tan head. The creamy head lasts well and produces nice lacing. Has a good hoppy aroma with hints of pine. Has a good carbination a solid mouthfeel. Medium body and a good finish. Has a good flavor and crispness. A real good easy drinking IPA. I like it. otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Mar 9, 2009 My Wet Hop Ale from Sierra Nevada poured crystal clear amber, seemingly frozen in time while a huge poufy head of orange-tinged foam sits daintily on top. I am reminded of the inner side of an orange peel where all the soft squishy skin lies, protecting the juicy goodness inside from the damaging bumps and bruises outside. Massive clumps of lace cling to the sides of my glass as the amber and copper-hued brew sports a settled layer of foam on top. Not to be outdone, before I even have a chance to raise my glass, her abundant aroma spills over the sides and makes a run for my nose. Wet, moist, and sappy with sticky hops bouyied by cut grass, crushed pine needles, lemon, grapefruit, and some faint floral notes. Truly decadent and oh-so-very wet, much like her name implies. My first quaff is also wet and sappy with a coating mouthfeel ripe with tons of crushed pine, grass, floral esters, grapefruit, and lemon skin. There is so much going on in this beer; I’ll try to break it down as best as possible before I find my glass empty. Hop oils linger in the finish while more bitterness from lemon skin and grapefruit tickles the back of my throat. A growing sweetness whispers of honeycomb and further pine sap. Supporting my Wet Hop Ale is a solid backbone of sweet cereal grains, bread, and toasty malts, a quiet yet reliable partner lingering in the shadows. Even though she comes in a big bottle, I find my Sierra Nevada 12th Anniversary Harvest Wet Hop Ale to be gone all too soon. Thankfully, a pleasing reminder of our time together remains in all her wet, sticky, and divine finish.
Just as her name implies, this year’s Harvest Ale is wet with everything that I love about wet-hopped ales. Once more I have an even larger appreciation for this amazingly magical plant whose discovery hundreds of years ago has led me here. History is best lived in the now, specifically, in my glass. War4soccer (115), , Nevada, USA Mar 8, 2009 bottle.. really a nice easy to drink beer..solid flavour throughout.. not much color..reddish Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Mar 7, 2009 doesn’t see much improvement to this from the regular sierra nevada, except the color is more beautiful and it does taste wetter.
