drjay44 (758), Salida, Colorado, USA Feb 20, 2009 24 oz. bottle. 12th iteration. Pours a thick, creamy, off white head of good duration, with loads of lacing over a dark honey colored slightly clouded body....nose redolent of hop ( pine, grapefruit), no real yeast or malt tones....tastes initially of sweetish malts then a gradually building but gentle hop bitterness finishes with heavy citrus tones, but the malt sweet is always quietly present....mouthfeel is rich and chewy. This is much milder in straight bitterness than many an IPA. It has a lovely balance. uhclem (188), Loveland, Colorado, USA Feb 20, 2009 Labled as 12th release. Nice amber pour with a thick eggshell head and copious lacing. Nose is as described in the commercial description. Taste is a nice blend of hops, pine and fruit. Mouthfeel is sumptuous. Finish is bold and hoppy, but with a hint of metal. mansquito (819), Boston/Philadelphia, USA Feb 16, 2009 Amber body and has a foamy white head... but hey there is a picture on this website so this is kind of unnecessary. Aroma is pretty strongly of hops and the obvious fruity elements. The beer itself is hoppy, but not overly so. It is smooth and crisp going down. Sweet malts undertones persevere beneath the hops. satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2009 wonderful dark color of burnt orange. flavor is spicy and dark, citrus notes are present but subdued. lacing reflects the dirty element of this overhopped bomb. wonderfully bitter and fresh as todays newspaper at 3am. brigg (213), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Feb 15, 2009 (bottle) Amber body with a huge beige head that forms stiff peaks. Aroma is very hoppy and mildly sweet with grass, grapefruit. Clean hop flavor, and sweet. Very drinkable, and thirst quenching. Medium bodied and smooth. Though the finish is hoppy, it retains some of the sweetness. Lots of lacing on the glass. hophead21112 (110), Louisville (LEWISville), Colorado, USA Feb 12, 2009 Amber color with off-white head that sticks around for a while. Wonderful lacing. Hoppy pine aroma with a little sweet to it. Balanced mouth. Medium carbonation and slightly creamy on the tongue. Nice spice. Good beer. Grizzle (44), Lawrence, Kansas, USA Feb 11, 2009 Served in English styled pint glasses, shared with my wife. Pours a fairly orangish brown, with medium-light opacity. The head dissipates fairly quickly, tho it leaves a nice lacing on my glass. The distinctive smell this beer has is of nuts. Pecans, maybe? Definitely a lightly roasted, buttery nut quality. This, in addition to the mild hops, fruity, floral sugars, and slight note of cinnamon. Taste continues the nuttiness, with a sharper bite from the hops, and more pronounced sweetness from malts. It’s interesting that this beer has both bitter and sweet, but it’s what I would say is a great example of balance. Still, a great beer. Nebulor (109), , California, USA Feb 9, 2009 2008, pours a root beer color with a copper hue and a 1/2 " off white head with lacing. Lots of action with some yeast sediment suspension.
Smell of caramel malt with some hop esters.
Has a crisp caramel malt taste with orange, grapefruit, and tea flavored hops.
Has a sweet medium/moderate bodied palate with a nice finish.
Very drinkable I buy one everytime I see it available.
