DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Jun 17, 2008 24 oz. bottle on 06/17/08. Clear, brilliant burnt orange body under a frothy, light beige, lasting head leaving a wispy lace. Fine hoppy aroma of pine and citrus, background notes of spice and toffee. Medium body and carbonation, a mildy resinous character that complements the dry palate.
Good balance of flavors with a solid caramel sweetness and assertive, yet not overly bold, spicy hop bitterness. Kudos to SN, they still brew some really fine beers. For the price (I paid $5.00) this is a great value, and can hold its own against the better IPAs and APA’s out there. Aroma – Huge IPA aroma with a great malt backing.
Appearance – Amber in color, clear with a thin head.
Flavor – Fantastic flavor with a great malt balance.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, crisp texture with a dry finish.
Overall – This was a very good IPA and I would drink this all the time if I could.
dutch23mp (160), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA Jun 14, 2008 Great brew on a par with their barley wine. Head dissipates quickly but the taste makes up for it just the correct amount of hops to make this the trademark of this beer hoooraybeer (48), Cranford, New Jersey, USA Jun 13, 2008 pours honey amber with a medium white head. Aroma is faint clean citrus with a slight hint of cherries. Mouthfeel is effervescent with brief malty fullness that is quickly supplanted with fresh piney hops. It is clean and refreshing. Really good but not really exciting. darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 12, 2008 24oz 2008 bottle. dark copper with a fluffy medium head. faint hop and citrus smell. hops on the taste with slight caramel and malt. bitter hop finish. fantastic balance. a great baseline example of an IPA. well done. K-7.5 Nik925 (300), California, USA Jun 9, 2008 Fantastic. Aggressively hopped, a true hop showcase. If only there was a way for this to be available year round...Southern Hemisphere isn’t a reasonable alternative, this one is much better. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA Jun 8, 2008 Bomber. Pours a golden orange into New Glarus pub glass. Fresh nose and flavor. This beer is indeed "green". Fruit and hop flavors prevail. Just enough malt from keeping it a hop overload. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 8, 2008 Hoppy, some malty hints. Color is golden/amber. Tasted some orange peel/grapefruit and spices. It had the distinctive Sierra Nevada taste.
