islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 15, 2007 20 oz. pour, on tap at Mackenzie in Minneapolis. Consumed on 12-13-07. Soft aroma remarkable for its hoppiness. Pumpkin, rotting fruit (but not in a bad way), freshly mown grass, and spice scents. I’d like the smell to be stronger. Pours a clear, deep copper with a small amount of near-white head. Produces an even coating of lacing. Tangy, floral flavor features simultaneous sweet maltiness and bitter, dry hoppiness. Red apple flavor. Tastes like a highly hopped amber as much as it does a classic American IPA. Long, crisp, dry, and slightly bitter aftertaste. Smooth, soft, and creamy in the palate. This beer was not as in-your-face hoppy as it was a month or two ago when I first tried it at the same location. I liked it even better the first time, when I would have given it a 4.0 or 4.1. That said, this is my kind of beer! I prefer this slightly to the also excellent Celebration, but I actually have Celebration rated a tenth of a point higher at this moment. chef201atc (249), Weatherford, Texas, USA Dec 15, 2007 Clear deep copper colored pour with a medium head. Nice grassy/piney hop nose. Palate is clean and crisp with moderate carbonation. Nice piney hop flavor up front, good bitter hop finish. beerhandy (195), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Dec 13, 2007 Been downing pints of this , since it showed up in tulsa, the hop character is really pleasent full of Pacific Northwest hoppiness blended with a rich red caramelly malty ale, whats not to love madcow75 (425), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Dec 12, 2007 Bottle. Pours amber/copper, a little hazy with big rocky off white head. Aromas are flowery, citrus and some sweet malt. Taste is flowery and piney hops, iced tea.Medium body, malty finish. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Dec 11, 2007 Deep golden colour with a white head. Malty, light sweet aroma with hoppy fruity and piney notes. Hoppy piney bitter flavor with notes of fruit and malts. valpoaj (362), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Dec 9, 2007 Deep amber pour...very bubbly white head with lots of cumulus cloud action on top, and no matter how much beer is left in your mug, there’s always a thin head there! Lots o’ lacing for those that enjoy that sort of thing. Aroma is pretty smooth hops...some malt built in, but some smooth, piney hops. Best way to describe flavor/palate is ’clean’...it indeed has a very fresh hops flavor, and is smooth and pleasant on the palate. Hops isn’t overly bitter, which allowed me to really enjoy this beer...probably my favorite from the folks at SNBC to date! shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Dec 9, 2007 11th Edition 2007 24oz bottle. This is exciting. Poured into an imperial pint glass. The color is a clear orange/amber. Head is a thin layer or lacy white that always clings to the glass; very nice. Aroma is very different, spicy hops mix with caramel malt in a unique way. The same uniqueness come out in the flavor as well. Hard to describe. 7/4/6/3/15 HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 8, 2007 Great beer from one of my favorite breweries. 24 oz bottled poured a reddish honey color. All the usual suspects were present in the aroma, citrus, pine and sweet floral hops. Very crisp and fresh flavor not overly hopped but hops defintely define this beer. Very nice lacing left on the shaker. Not especially balanced but, it is an IPA afterall. Will definitely purchase this one many more times.
