Commercial Description:
Our Harvest Ale was the first American beer ever brewed with 100% fresh picked, "wet hops." In just one day, we harvest hops in Yakima, WA, ship them that night to our brewery in Chico, CA, and then rush them into the brew kettle as they are unloaded at dawn the next day.

This extraordinary effort creates a beer with unmatched aromatics of pine and citrus with layers of spicey sweet notes that hop fanatic like us dream of all year. Enjoy!

Pretty generic IPA. I’m not really impressed nor can I smell anything unmatched about the aroma. Maybe my nose hasn’t learned enough flavors.

2008 bottle. Pours a large, creamy, spoonable (as M. would say), off-white head. Hazy, amber body. Elegant lacing. Faint, faded citric hop aroma. No single definable hop aroma...just miscellaneous citrus, fruit and floral. Some dark fruit/raisin in the malt as well as caramel. Flavor contains more citric hops. Malty, dark fruit comes through more strongly. Chewy, melded caramel is abundantly present. Medium-full body, soft carbonation. Big sweet malt up front is washed away with the abundant hop bitterness. Lingering raisin and citrus. Light resin. Really good...would like to see how a fresh 2009 bottle compares. This one is moving towards a strong ale as the hop aromas fade and the flavors meld.

This had a clear orange color and a musty smell, yum…the mouthfeel is like lots of tiny bubbles, weird carbonation. Taste is subtle oily hops, no bitterness and the alcohol is not noticeable. Good fresh hop ale but my favorite is Deschutes Hop trip. Sierra Nevada never seems to disappoint. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-15-2007 16:08:14

A copper color beer with a small head. The aroma is grassy hops, wonderfully grassy. The taste is smooth with the grassy taste being most dominant, & fruity hops with a nice malt balance. Great fresh IPA.

On Tap at the Falling Rock Tap House, Denver 13/10/2008 Some malt aroma. Copper amber coloured and smooth on the palate with a crisp hoppy and slightly bitter dry finish.

Draught at Sorbon, Stockholm. Clear amber colour with rich, hop-induced foam. Rich grassy, hop aroma and grapefruit peel. I get a dry impression. Flavour is immensely grassy bitter, almost salty after, with a backbone of fruit peel. This got almost too much even for a hop head like myself. Mouthfeel is slick, oily. Medium sweet, big bitterness. Great beer!

This is seriously one of the best beers I have ever had.... The look is clear copper-orange. Little bubbles shoot up like tiny elevators. Three enormous fingers of fluffy heads. Rings of thick lace like a redwood; ice cream float head on top. It’s got it all. The hops in the nose are a complex blend of major oily citrus. Sweet flowery perfume, but a tiny, slight resiny pine. Beautiful. Some burnt firewood. The taste is a bitter perfume; sweet, but with a bite on the back end. Roasted caramel malts are crucial. It’s about the perfect IPA. There is a triumphant triumverate of sweet hops, bitter citrus hops, and roasted malts. [In flavor, it is very similar to Stone Ruination and Flying Dog Double Dog.] The feel is strangely bubbly and fizzy with a bite on the way down. Though this beer is really bitter, it’s beautifully balanced. A superior Harvest/IPA. Dynamite in a glass.
