rocbyter (692), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Oct 29, 2007 11th Edition. Aroma of boiling hops with mild yeast mixed in. Dark clear orange color with a small to medium white head and a moderate amount of lacing. Malt taste is moderate in the beginning but masked my large hop bitterness, finish is dominated by the hops. Palate has a thin but still creamy feel the way every IPA should be. This is a great example of a strong and well balanced IPA.
WisconsinBeer (361), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep transparent orange color. Medium head, leaves a good amount of lacing in the glass. What can you say about the flavor other than this is a hop lovers wet dream. Big pine and citrus hops, a little bit chewy and resiny. Fresh. Nice malt backbone to keep the hops from overwhelming. A hint of spice, but not so much as to overwhelm. Medium bodied. Finish is lingering, a bit sweet. Damn. This is a solid beer. jhliesen (361), West Melbourne, Florida, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle-2008 edition. Hmmm.... overall a super, solid IPA and just the way I like them, solid hop taste that’s not overwhelming. Amber, almost copper color with a frothy heads that settles nicely and sticks around for the whole drink. The head also leaves a nice layer of lacing. Lots of flowery and pine aroma, the taste was of the right amount of bitterness. Props for the extra 2 ozs in the bomber bottle. produce place. lordeche (342), Bridgewater, Massachusetts, USA Nov 30, 2008 12th release. Pours copper with frothy off-white head. Aroma is bitter and flowery, very herbal, with a pale malt backbone. Flavor is light with hints of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla malt and a flowery, herbal finish. Not much bitterness. Palate is extremely smooth and full, with minimal stickiness. Pretty good.
patrick767 (1547), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Nov 30, 2008 draft - Pours amber-orange with a one finger head. It has a nice citrus hop aroma with a malty background. It tastes of some caramel malt initially that’s quickly followed by a robust citrus and pine accented hops presence. Fresh hops lingers on the palate of this medium bodied brew. Very good. MrBunn (948), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours a coppery amber with little head. Aromas are thin... mostly an apple juice sweetness and I’m looking around for hops and coming up empty handed. Flavor is pretty hoppy... citrus and pine are sharp and crisp, but every now and again it comes across as a bit thin, like there is not quite enough malt body. Still, it is pretty good.
