This massive Imperial Stout is infused with cocoa and dried chilies. Rich and complex aromas, heavy with roasted grains, mask the layers of flavor within. Notes of bittersweet chocolate, mocha, and a mild smokiness give way to a tingling and complex finish from the influence of the peppers.

Pours a deep brownish black on tap with thick tan head that leaves good lace. Aroma of chocolate, sweet and dark, just a faint spicy note. Taste is more toward the chilies, but good balance and not over the top. Booze is extremely well hidden, nice thick mouth, but not chewy. A nice surprise.

Draft to taster at the Mills River brewpub. This batch is 9.2% abv with 50 IBUs, and goes simply by Chocolate Chili Stout on the beer board and list. Looks good; a slightly translucent dark cola with beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark malt, chocolate, roast, and chili pepper spice. Tastes like it smells with a mildly bit tedium to medium full-bodied mouthfeel. A nice slow sipper, but one is more than enough.

On tap at the House of Brews. Deep almost inky black. Medium khaki head that settles to a wispy surface and collar. Chocolate aroma. Roasted malt. Booze and some licorice. Tastes of rich chocolate. Roasted coffee malt. The faintest of peppers, but not much. Heavy and a little boozy. Good stout, but not very dynamic.

just called Chocolate Chili stout, but the abv is about right. Tap in Chico. Chocolate is pretty subtle. Dry hopped w cocoa nibs, a little under the radar, but nice. the chili is a touch more evident without being overbearing. A nice firm bittersweet roasty stout, too.

Draft at Tap & Bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin brown head. Very light aroma that is just hints of malt. Nice flavor with dark malt, molasses and just a faint hint of pepper in the lingering finish. Fairly tame and meh.

Eye: black with high but unstable head Nose: chocolate, roasted notes, some malts, and some fresh punch from peppers, almost no hops Mouth: cocoa, chocolate, full bodied, roasted, finish with some alcohol and some chili hotness that covers it almost completely --- A very good one, chili on the right level.

Tap @ Tap and Handle Fort Collins. Pours a dark brown appearance with a thin brown head. Quite oaky, fairly spicy, woody, dark chocolate, vanilla aroma. Very wood forward. Lots of oak, vanilla, coconut, dark chocolate flavor with just a bit of spiciness on the finish. Nice stuff.

Black as night pour with a great beige head. Chocolate cocoa nib peppers and caramel meld with roast and espresso in an amazing way. Earthen coffee roast in the finish. This beer is awesome. Dry but sweet. Excellent balance. Like a boss.

Tap at CK. Thin but sheen and rocky mocha foam atop clear, near black pour. Sharp cedar and savory steak nose. Taste is sharp cedar, black pepper, mild tanginess, present but subtle chili pepper/Mexican chocolate heat and kick. Palate is super dry but not thin. Excellent hop balance. Still is oak forward and somehow not overwhelming with tannins. Very impressive. Probably the best of the evening sampling over 20 new beers from Sierra Nevada.

Draft. Black beer with a dark tan head. Chocolate and malt aroma with light earth and light chili. Chili and chocolate flavor with toffee. Medium bodied. Chili and chocolate lingers with toffee, caramel, and light earth.
