A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Picked a 4 pack up from the local grocery store. Very smooth for a triple IPA. Would drink again.

I am not sure how on earth this ranks as Sierra Nevada’s second best beer (as of July 2014) but it is a pretty decent IIPA as far as IIPAs go. This pours a nice golden orange color, clear w/ a ring of fine bubbles for a head. This is very focused on tropical fruit and pine flavors from the hops. It is a bit sweet, maybe slightly sticky, full bodied but still relatively drinkable. As it warms, a strong mandarin orange character develops and it gets quite juicy and thick but not unpleasantly so. It finishes w/ a bit of sweetness, solid bitterness and just a bit of alcohol burn. I grew to like this more and more over the course of the glass. It is definitely a good beer to take some time w/.

Great balanced beer!!!Amber color ,medium off-white head. Aroma of pine ,mango, caramel malt and citrus. Floral , fruity taste with malted sweetness in begining , which balanced by strong hoppy bitterness in finish. Long bitter aftertaste. Fantastic balans.

Tepid orange pour looks heavy, fresh from the tap. Peach schnapps, caramel, and soft cantaloupe are the main notes in the misty, perfumed haze of an aroma. It is obviously alcoholic but the way it maintains its floral, fruity softness is surprising.

Bubblegum, flowers, honeydew melon; lots of melon. It’s juicy but more accurately very oily. Its sweetness is reminiscent of angel food cake, and almond frosting; the clean softness of these notes is pleasing.

Heavy palate with soft bubbles. While alcoholic and decidedly sweet throughout, it is never cloying. It is slick and wet - certainly too much alcohol for my taste - but I dislike this less than is usual. There is an impressionistic quality to the hop and malt tones that’s aesthetically nice.

Bottle to English pint glass. Pours hazy amber/orange, quick head, little lacing. Aroma...never came across such intense aroma from an ale. Hints of grapefruit, wild flowers, spruce, stone fruit and bread. The taste starts out sweet up front then the hops kick in creating an intense bitter flavor bomb. Full bodied, medium carbonation, a bit sticky resin mouth feel. Finishes quite dry with notes of pine, grapefruit, lemon, candy and well menthol, for lack of that note I can’t grab but comes from the alcohol content. This sucker is the best DIPA I’ve ever tasted. Nice job Sierra Nevada!

Sharp and crisp. Bitter, punchy hops, grapefruit and citrus zest. Easily drinkable despite the alcohol content. Complex, a bit of sweetness, a bit of earthiness.

On bottle. The aromas of this beer are like a punch on the nose, a combinaison of : piney, citrus, tropical fruits overwhelmed us like a ram on a castle door. In the mouth, a light caramel taste at first that rapidly leave place to the parade of heavy hops flavors : pine, resin and citrus. A long bitter aftertaste that stay on well after your last sip. A nice beer for hopheads ! Rating # 51
