A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Bottle (dated 48th day of 2012). Pours amber gold with thick white head with good retention. A little worried that I’m losing my sense of smell: I’m not detecting much aroma, just a little citrus. Flavor is delicious: grapefruit, pine, floral, and tropical fruit. Very nice DIPA.

Huge hop nose, dank with pineapple juice. Huge hoppiness in the flavor, justifying the (rather hot) 10% alcohol and then some. Still, this beer seems more interested in taking names than in drinkability.

Originally reviewed: 1/21/11. Didn’t want to shell out the $ for a bottle of this bad boy, so I was really excited to see this one on tap at City Bev in town. A full pint, poured out a clear dark orange with a finger-width white head on top. Minor lace. The nose is splendid, with bursts of fresh pine, grapefruit juice, orange zest, and light alcohol. Very nice for the style. The mouth was crisp and clean. Alcohol was very apparent. Big boozy DIPA here. That’s almost all I could notice at first, but the hops came through in the end. Crisp, sharp, and highly bitter. There we go. Still, this is one of the more boozy beers I’ve had in awhile. Much more so than Hopslam. Sweet sugary flavors meld in there, but the booze just takes over. This was decent, but I like my DIPAs a little less aggressive. Glad I tried it though.

Hop forward great brew. Very citrusy with lots of depth and great mouthfeel. You know there is alot of alcohol in there, but it is not over powering. Warning: don’t drink this and then drink a nugget nectar. The bitterness blows away nugget nectar and makes it taste like bud.

Pours an orange, copper color with a very low quick fading white head. Aroma has a strong citrus nose, dominated mostly by a grapefruit flavor but mellowed by some orange and lemon presence later. Other notes present in the nose - a strong flowery presence with some mild resin notes late. Flavor has a fantastic grapefruit acidity that is present as a constant background flavor throughout the tasting. A sweetness from the malt is present in the middle and when combined with the light resinous flavors from the hops, creates a pleasant flavor profile for the brew. A woody flavor shows up late in the flavor, lending a slight cedar flavor (reminds me of opening my wife’s hope chest). Body is smooth, slightly dry with an overall sweet profile. The alcohol in this beer is extremely well hidden. Overall a good brew. The flavor range found in the brew are fantastic but they tend to get a bit muddled because there are so many flavor variants in the brew. Definitely a brew I wouldn’t pass up if offered again.

Aroma of perfect hops. Bitter pine, brilliant floral and a nice dark citrus. Pours amber and clear with a big foamy head. Taste is wonderfully hoppy with a great pine and floral hop. Wonderfully sweet and intense. A great IPA.

Honey amber color in the glass. The aroma has a big floral bouquet along with some citrus. There is a good blend of bitterness and citrus that hides the alcohol. Medium finish.

Pours a clear orange, with a nice amount of carbonation and a soapy white head. The aroma hits you with an onslaught of pine needles, backed up by sweet juicy hops. The taste is tongue tingling bitter. Oranges, pineapple, mangoes, a fruit punch for adults. Nice amount of malts balancing it out. Pretty sweet, a bit boozy, very drinkable.

Amusing label. Bright orange, clear brew. Huge head -- a 12 oz bottle overflowed a 22 oz "pint" glass on a non-aggressive pour. Squat, west coast twistoff. Big, piney/caramel AIPA aroma with a few sulphury notes thrown in. Buttery mouthfeel, silky body. As advertised, aggressive hopping. Woody, not too sweet. Meh.

Excellent beer. A thick, creamy body with lots of hop aroma, bitterness, and finish. A sweet start but ends up with a nice dry, bitter finish. This is good for my millennial beer.
