A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Pours a nice Copper, with a nose of heavy hops. Very dry and nutty flavor, with notes of bananas, Not a huge fan of hoppy beer, but have to say for a hoppy beer this had really good flavors. I could probably drink another.

(bottle). Big floral hop aroma with foamy head and orange-copper complexion. Sharp hop flavor with some fruitiness within the high IBU. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tried this on tap and from the bottle. This beer really lets you know that you are drinking something. It has a nice hoppy aroma and plenty of head. There is a nice balance of hops and malts but there sure are a lot of them =O It is not very hard to tell that this beer packs over 10% ABV and I think it is a masterpiece of triple digit IBUs. Not a go-to beer for me but I will keep some on hand when I can find it :)

Taste of alcohol & citrus, floral heavy hop aftertaste. Smooth palate and nice aroma, reminiscent of classic SN Pale Ale. Very good IIPA overall, would buy again.

From bottle to tulip. Pours a crystal clear amber with a two finger off-white head. Smells of citrus and floral hops with a hint a booze. Taste is abrupt of floral hops with a hint of citrus and a slight malt backbone, very good. MF is average with good medium carbonation. Overall this is an awesome, semi-readily available DIPA.

Deep copper coloured body with a rustic golden tint, a nice thick, three centimetre tall off-white head and a zillion, literally, ridiculously small bubbles rising from the bottom and sides of the glass. Aroma of fresh hops, alcohol, sugars, grapefruit and quite a bit of unfinished sugars. Full-bodied; Very chewy mouthful with a ton of alcohol, even more malt and much more hops - very strong, but the sweetness is even perhaps more overpowering. Aftertaste shows a ton of alcohol, a lot of sugars and a good hop bitterness, but the flavour remains squarely on alcohol and sugar. Overall, a decent imperial IPA, but perhaps overdone, with the alcohol and sugars - the hops come through very nicely, but with so much alcohol and raisin, syrupy sweetness, it’s hard to focus on that side of the beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased on 01-May-2012 from Olive Tree Marketplace in Ocean Beach, San Diego, California for US$2.69 sampled at home in Washington two days before heading back out to San Diego, on 03-May-2012.

Poured into a Duvel tulip from a 12 ounce 2012 bottle.

A: Clear copper body with a thin off white head, this looks like it’s going to pack a punch.

A: Very tropical aroma of pineapples, mango, and some citrus. This smells fantastic, on par with the best of the IIPAs.

S: Hops from start to finish sit on a sweet and thick malt base, lots of tropical flavors here reminding me a lot of Firestone Walker’s Double Jack (from recollection). Pineapple, mango and lots of citrus are here and the flavor gets progressively bitter with a nice semi-dry finish. No alcohol here at all despite 10.4% abv, this is well balanced.

M: Thick, but a stabbingly sharp carbonation feels like little needles on my tongue.

O: This is the best widely available IIPA in the world. I can’t think of another IIPA that is as far spread as this, especially at $8.99 for a 4 pack. This is an amazing beer and every hop head owes it to themselves to try it.

12oz bottle from Cellar Wine and Spirits in Norman. Pours clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of pine, grapefruit, strong hops, and some booze. Flavors of citrus, pine, a ton of bitter hops, and some sweet caramel malts. Little bit of booze in the finish as this is a big DIPA. Has just enough malt to handle the assault of bitter hops. Nice to have a freshly bottle DIPA for once.

Pretty darn tasty. Pours a rich orangey-amber with good clarity, and a light head. Nose is a bit weak (in contrast to palate), sort of hoppy, slight malty. Fulll bodied and creamy, slightly sweet in the front, with hops following close behind in mostly grapefruit and pine notes. Runs through a full display of hops that fades very slowly into a lingering alpha bitterness. Techinically a very tight DIPA, and worth the time it took to hunt for it.
