3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
’12 bottle. Clear caramel pour with a froth of white foam and steady carbonation. Aroma is medum pine, underlying bitterness, some soft tropical notes, and a grainy malt backbone. Taste is fairly bitter with a heavy resinous pine component and a fairly sweet malt backbone. Mouthfeel is thick and a bit sticky. Well made and enjoyable but does not have the over the top hop aromatics and, of equal importance, the complimentary dry, biscuity malt backbone that my favorite IIPAs bring to the table.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer pours a clear, orangey amber color with a full, white, fluffy head which is somewhat lasting and leaves scattered lace. The nose is woodsy, floral, citrus peel, light leafy notes, some resins, and slight tropical hints. The flavor is similar, assaulting my palate; citrus peel, more tropical notes, very high bitterness, leafy, drying herbal, and rustic notes all over. The palate is lively, moderately full, round, and drying. The beer finishes long with dry herbal and rustic, tangerine notes emerging, and still a bit of tropical. Quite an abrasive beer which I think was exact;y what SN was going for. There were subtle intricacies like the floral an leafy notes, as well as the tropical tones. For me, it was a bit to acidic and lacked just some subtle malt tones to balance all the hops for this 10%+ IIPA. Nice but overwhelming.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2013 Hoptimus-prime would be proud to call Hoptimum a top tier Imperial IPA! Much more depth than Hopslam. You start out with strong citrus (orange & grapefruit), and very resin heavy undertones. Pouring this beer it shows strong golden-amber tones and off white head. Taking your first slip sets you back and all you can think about are hops. These hops are different you say.... Much more depth, sticky resin on your teeth, an overall a hop-bomb. palette finishes super nice starts chewy and finishes thinner. Overall, nice hop-bomb of recent date!
****2013 rerate, drops down in rating due to heavy resin and off?balance. ****

Unfreaking-believable I love this beer so much. I have not had an IPA of this magnitude since hop slam! This is my third four pack and I hope to find more. The only thing that fell short was the aroma for me.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Light gold pour with sizeable white head and tremendous pacing. Nose is heavy on the resin, with some peach, orange and pineapple apparent. Full bodied...initial blast is all about the fruits mentioned above...this is followed by a massive resinous kick in the teeth. Some caramel-like sweetness is there but doesn’t overshadow the other characteristics.

12 oz bottle in a duvel tulip. Pours a clean orange amber. Inch and a half thick white head with sticky lacing. Aroma is pine, tropical fruit and citrus. Flavor is like a tropical ipa with caramel. Mango, papaya, pineapple, and grapefruit are abundant. There is some caramel and toffe malt to back it up. The mouthfeel is sticky and the beer is resinous. This DIPA is great and I will seek this out again.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rating #600. On draft at home, sixtel. Poured clear, light orange with thin white head leaving a virtual blanket of lacing. Nose is sweet of candi sugar, floral notes, and light citrus fruits. Sweet, light citrus flavor of tangerine, peach, orange. Finished dry and tongue stripping with piney notes present. Medium bodied, excellent balance. Just a touch boozy.

Meh. Pours a golden brown. Nose and taste are hop hop hoppity hop. Nothing unique or special here. Just another hop bomb for the sake of being a hop bomb. Been there done that.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Oh my freakin’ lord. Liquid Lupulin in a glass. Clear golden with a formidable head. Citrus, spruce and candy aroma. A resinous riot in my mouth, with huge hop flavor up front, then a hint of the carmel malts and alcohol, before being clobbered by the long luxuriously abrasive bitter finish. I’ve had so many beers recently that claim to be DIPA’s, but fall so far short of the goal line, that this is a refreshing reminder of what life could (and should) be like - every day.

Golden honey pour with thick off-white head. Aroma is spicy hops. Taste is spicy hops, nice malt backbone. Great hop flavor-not overbearing.
