COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Pours a clear orange with a large sticky white head. Big aroma sweet and hoppy, with notes of pineapple, grapefruit, and light floral. Hoppy and bitter flavor, with a long finish. Sort of wish for a bit more "fresh hop" flavor, but a very good beer.

poured out of the bottled into my snifter I got a good nose full of hops and citrus notes. The color was goldish with a brown hazy center. Flavor was pretty much dominated by the hops with a good solid malt backing. With a ABV over 10% it is incredible easy to drink.

Centennial hops on the nose, typical IPA, taste, bitterness and hops on taste, typical imperial IPA, nothing immensely impressive, alcohol present

Bottle. Pours a gold/orange color with white head. Floral hops with a sweet fruitiness on the nose. Flavor starts sweet and citrus and then goes towards the bitter hop end of the spectrum for the finish.

This beer has a big frothy head and light amber color. The aroma is spicy with a lot of hops. The flavor is dry with a big bitter aftertaste.

Bottle from Vas Foremost. Pours a very clear deep gold/bronze with a sticky dissipating head. Nose is lush tropical fruits, resin, citrus and some faint sweet notes. Alcohol is also quite strong in the nose, which may be the source of the sweetness. On taste, it is a hop assault, very strong bittering and a clean fermentation. The malt doesn’t quite support the alcahol notes, which are potent and strong. Lots of citrus and tropical fruit come through as well. I assumed there was citrus in here, but the Chinook is a bit of a surprise. Also curious to hear more about the new variety. Primary issue I have with this is how strong the alcohol notes are. Still, a pretty superb IIPA.

On tap at Tyler’s in Durham. Nose of wonderfully citrusy-hops, as well as some pine and resin. Citrus and tropical all the way... but I can tell this is going to be an alcohol bomb. Tastes great at first, until the alcohol slaps you an calls you names. Sort of embarrassing. Intense taste; great but boozy. Thick, sticky palate. Great, but only for sippin’.

Alright, here we go. It smells orangey with an eggy meringue sweetness to it which is reflected i the dense and shiny foam. The bitterness is B-I-G though it doesn’t get old. It has an orange peel essential oil flavour with hints of clovey numbness on the tongue. The finish is spicy and bitter. It leaves a real peppery note i the back of the throat. It is STRONG but it suits it. There is a woodiness to the finish too a dusty and dry cedar character which I am fond of. I wouldn’t plan on b,ashing, it, back but it will certainly make for an interesting evening.

Bottle (500ml?). 2011 release pours a clear amber with big head of foam into my NB globe. Mild aroma of rubbing alcohol not much else. Good carbonation very hop forward - lives up to the name at least. Not bad but a very bitter finish is just a little too much for me. Probably good if you like the aggressive style. I love IPAs but not this. Too many other good ones luckily this was only $4 at Lush.
