A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous Ďnew-schoolí and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit Ė all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

this was pretty awesome. the flavours were all over from citrus, pine and grassy hops. the malts balanced the hops almost perfectly. the bitter finish was great. very good example of what a IIPA should be. another great beer from SN.

24 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Opened 3/2/11. Pours a clear copper color with a large frothy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of big leafy, resiny hops. Some peppery and vegetal notes as well and a faint hint of caramel malts. The taste is bitter citrus, floral, tropical and resin hop notes. Notes of honey, plum, lime and some faint malts as well. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

24 oz hobo. Smells like a hop in a glass, tastes like one too. Ruddy amber with minimal head. Pretty good beer that comes in at a barely noticeable 10.4 abv! A+ would drink again.

On tap. Pours a red-tinged amber with a white head. Aroma is a fresh citrus with grapefruit and pine. Flavor is strong, fresh, juicy citrus and pine resin, herbal flavors, with a strong bitterness. This is a great double IPA!

25 oz. Bottle. (Donít get me wrong, I appreciate a good complex home/micro/craft-brew...) POW! This ninja ipa bred with Aliís right jab laid me out like Joe Frazier! the taste reminds me of squeezing the hops of their juices pulled fresh outta the keg. These hops are earthy (like a hippie un-doused in patchouli stench), tangy, and super grapefruit and lemon rind-y. Although, the aromas are quite flowery and have an almost dainty caress (entirely misleading). I may not be high, but definitely hop-high after this monster. the finish is all forest floor, but i canít stop drinking it. This is one powerful brew. Definitely overt. Itís like SN threw on a Dogfish mask and robbed the hop bank. But then again, extreme brews are a nice idea, too bad these I2país, I3país, etc. are just becoming the hoppy version of everclear. I have an idea - letís dump as many hops as we can think of and just add enough malt to placate those who may enjoy an almost-tasty beer. SN just hopped on the bandwagon (hehe), way to be like everybody else. FAIL.

Received a 22/24.oz bomber of this from a trade with BA smakawhat, so a big thanks goes out to him. Poured into snifter a hazy but yet clear orange, with very little head that fades quickly. Quite surprised at the almost lack of head here. Small traces of tiny lacing, really small lacing that comes in little dots. Appearance is not too impressive here. Aromas sure make up for the rather lazy outward design. Hops, hops, hops with sweet caramel malt hit the nose immediately. Very pleasant. One of the best aromas Iíve encountered in a while. Hops attack first and foremost upon first sip.Excellent. Malt backbone comes through, but cannot fight the hops. Beautiful. Just what I want in a DIPA. A medium to full-fledged heavy body, with maybe a little too much carbonation. If you love hoppy brews like I do, then this should qualify as a masterpiece,IMO. Not too sweet, great emphasis on hops make this frighteningly drinkable for the hophead, considering the ABV.Wow. I can only hope I can get more in the future, or soon.

The aroma is pine, earthy, sweatsock, basement. The appearance is a clear red, white head. The flavor is earthy, pine and citrus (a lot of hops at work here.) The finish is a lingering earth, resin, pine needle. Medium in body, slighly oily. The beer definitely lives upn to its name. Good overall.

Bottle pours copper with a white head. Aroma shows lots of tropical and floral character with notes of grapefruit, pineapple, mango, and lavender. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of caramel and some spicy white pepper on the finish. Overall body is moderate and sticky, with moderate to heavy bitterness.
