A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

On tap at the Mayor of Oldtown. Appearance: 2 fingers white head, amber color, clear, great lacing. Aroma: dank hops, grapefruit, caramel, light pine. Palate: medium body, average carbonation, bitter dry finish that lasts, light alcoholic feeling, sticky. Taste: sweet caramel into full bitterness. Balance is great, super well done for how bold it is.

Bottle. Copper/orange, off white thin head, heavy lacing. Pine dominated aromas with elements of citrus blossom, grapefruit. biscuit and toasted nuts. Huge resinous pine flavour, with grapefruit back notes and bitter caramel leading into the back palate. The alcohol is present in the front and mid palate and detracts slightly. Massive bitterness throughout all aspects of the beer leading to a long finish. A good beer, but lacks the citrus punch to freshen it up and make it a great beer in my book. A touch too big.

Pours a clear deep golden color with white head. Pine, citrus, and some floral notes on the nose, lots of hops; follows onto the palate. Finishes dry, but bitter.

Pours a ruby orange with a medium head. Aroma is super hoppy and piney, with some citrus. Whoa! Taste is SUPER hoppy. Some citrus, grass and pine as well. Palate is absolutely bombarded with hops. A little overpowering but unlike anything else I’ve had.

Piney resinous hop aroma with a bunch of malt. Taste is very malty with a descent hop balance. Bitter finish. For how malty this beer is it is nicely balanced with the hops. But very piney hops. Resinous bitter is not as much as I was expecting after the aroma. Actually very well made and a nice beer. Do not notice the alcohol, but it is a heavy beer. With the maltyness. Couldn't drink much, but it is well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours golden with a little haze. Some pine, a little spice and very, very bitter. Medium body, a little sticky. Long bitter finish. Where’s the malt?

On bottle, i have stored this for a while. Pours light amber with a slightly tanned head. Aroma has pine from the hops, there is also lots of malts. Taste is bitter, some of the aroma hops have disappeared. Nice balance with the malts.

Bottle from Specs, Cypress. Pours a clear orange copper with little head. Aroma is hoppy, with pine, pine resin and slight citrus notes. Not much malt on the nose. Taste is pine with little resin, citrus peel bitterness. Malts bring in a slight caramel sweetness and hint of toast. Nice bitter finish, clean. Palate is medium body, low carb. Tasty, clean and dangerous at 10.4% ABV.

Pours a clear coppery amber. Hops and citrus on the nose. Big hoppy flavors, medium carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Hints of caramel, honey, and grapefruit. Tangy and bitter all the way through, but not overpowering at any point along the way. A really bold, beautiful imperial IPA.
